Good post Jim (#29)
Keeping jobs and money here in north america is important to me...

BUT, Ive also learned that usually north american machines typically are rated at what can reasonably be attained.. while chinese products (and im not only referring to welders/plasmas but tools in general) are typically rated at the absolute maximum best case scenario (and usually then some)

I can honestly say ive totally abused the Duty Cycle on my Millers both at home and work and theyve never let me down or go into overheat. Thats do in no small part to having overbuilt components inside. Thats part of what you pay for... well that and not having children assemble the machines

When the day comes that i need a plasma... i know with 99% certainty what ill be buying and it wont be the brand named after boxing trunks.

Too bad i didnt bid higher on that Powermax45 that was in an auction last year... but it ended up going for about $1000.... And thats another good thing about north american products...Resale value...

Scooby,

While I appreciate your generalized opinion, (never having used or tried out one of our machines,) we are conservative on our ratings, both on duty cycle and on capacity. There are many videos and other testimony that our products, in fact, do match and exceed our ratings. Just as CrazyAl has already proven, equaling our maximum rating on our 60 amp cutter at only 50 amps. I'll stick with the independent verifications of our performance that have already been made by several members here already:

Jim I am ready to pull the trigger on a Hypertherm Cutter.A 30 or a 45 Really do not know witch way to go. It is for Home-Shop nothing more than 1/4" My question. Is the 30 a Homeowner unit or are 30 and 45 the same Tech. just different capacity I just don't want to make a mistake on this one.I do have a O/A setup That I can't cut worth a **** with, But works good on heating and bending Thanks tony

They are essentially the same technology, in fact you can put the Powermax30 consumables in the 45 torch. The 30 is pretty happy with 1/4", and can sever 1/2" (I have severed 5/8") pretty well. It will run on either 120 volt or 240 volt....and is extremely reliable. I have had miy Powermax 30 for over 3 years, and am only on my 3rd or 4th nozzle!

tonylumps, in a moment of "what did I just do" I bought an Everlast Supercut 50P. Rarely cut over 1/4" metal at home. Have read good and bad reviews about the product as with any other. When it came it was dark so I put it in the house to open. The size was disappointing compared to what I am used to at work. Next day I hooked it up and was very supprised. 1/4" was no problem and had a piece of 3/4" laying there. Cut it like paper. Hate to buy out of country products, but anymore what isn't? Not my John Deere with the Yanmar engine and chinese loader. Cutter was almost half the price of others, now to see how it holds up.

I don't have a dog in this hunt , But I have said this in other threads :

If I have never used " X " Product , I Don't comment on it . Opinions Based Solely on " Your " Opinion , is just that , Your Opinion , ( Much like we all have a rear end also !! ) . If you have " X " product , then fine share your experiences , But basing your " Opinion " basically upon nothing more than prejudice is pretty worthless in my eyes .

Honestly , I am surprised moderators let this go as in the truck and trailer forum they specifically said " No Brand Bashing " .

If You Don"t own it , Have Never owned it or Tried it , Then really your word is no better than John Q. Public standing on the street corner with his little sign about being broke and hungry .

After weeks of research ,reading everything I could find on Plasma Cutters and watching every video I could find I ordered a Hypertherm PM 30 Even though I have a 220V hookup I liked the Idea of the 110v. 1/4" and below is all I will be cutting. I already have a cart set up with 3 dedicated Filters For the Cutter Also 1 filter on the Compresser for shop air The compresser is 5 HP with 60 gallon tank Rated at 10.5 SCFM @90# so I think I will be getting the Max. Performance out of the Powermax 30 That should be enough Thanks Tony
