What you have to remember that during its 160,000 plus miles this truck motor was put though a torture that would have killed any engine. It was probably worked 10 times harder than any truck will ever be running the Baja, 24 hours at max throttle pulling its full 11,300# load, hot cold test, ect. There is no way anyone could duplicate these extremes in the real world.

I have to agree. No matter who made the engine. If it proves to be half as durable as this test engine, 99.9% of the people would never have an issue. That would make for one heck of a durable engine!

Where does it say ring issues????? Go back and read the article, it is leak down not compression.
Apparently you've never performed a leak down test. Bad rings would cause high leak down just as much as bad valves. Could be head problems instead but when your talking about a high compression turbo engine, the rings usually go first.

This is a BS test, V6's cannot compete with V8's period.

Either you have been under a rock or have not been watching the trends in the auto industry then. Many many V6's have out performed the V8's as of yet. Same thing with some 4 cylinders out performing the 6 cylinders they have now replaced. This has been the trend for many of the imports for the past 10 years, especially your high end ones.

Look at the current line up of small V8's. They out perform the big blocks of just 10 years ago.

Time for a change.

I'm really curious as to how the proposed SAE J2807 tow ratings will impact these factory mega-pound tow ratings. As far as I know now, Toyota is the only truck manufacturer voluntarily adhereing to the proposed rulings

I have to agree. My wifes Traverse has a 3.6l V6 with 281 horsepower. This is about 10 hp more than the 4.8 V8 in my 2001 Silverado. 2 cylinders and 1.2l smaller and also more fuel effecient to boot but does have about 25ftlbs of tourque less. Now, I will say I am not crazy about the new eco-boost motor. Not a big fan of the TT design as it seems it will be very complicated to work on and expensive to repair. I am willing to watch over the year and see if this engine lives up to the hype instead of calling it junk before it even has a chance to prove itself in consumers hands.
