I have a YM2000B

Left brake was stuck. Took it apart and cleaned it up. Lubed cams, shoes in excellent shape. Replaced springs (which were not bad) with new, new gasket and correct replacement cover (Broke the original getting it off). All reinstalled as per the way it came off.

When I lifted the brake operating rod to reattach to the actuater, it was too long. Pushed the pedal down and fastened it in place and the rod still stuck about 2" farther back than the actuating pivot on the cover. How can this be and what did I miss?

Is it possible to install the actuator upside down?

Yes. The cover will go on in any position and the holes will line up. The Untouched (right) side has the adjuster nut at 12:00 and the actuater lever at 6:00. I reinstalled the left side the same way.

Looking at it, it appears that if I were to rotate the cover one bolt hole counterclockwise to gain the room I need, that the lever would be jammed agaist the axle and therefor inoperable.

Did you replace the brake rods? I just bought new ones for mine and they are 2" longer than the original and will have to be cut down to work.

Can you post a photo? It would help a lot.

WInston & Gary....

Yes, it looks like the part in the Hoye picture. The rod is the original that was there when I took it apart. I did NOT remove it from the shaft that is actuated by the pedal, just pulled the pin at the clevis end.

I'll take a picture when I go back out to the farm and post it for further advice.

Thanks guys.

Are you saying it is so far out, the adjustment won't compensate? You could/should have reversed the shoes and pivot point which would require a re-adjustment.

I didn't mean rotating the cover. I was asking if you could turn the actuator (cam) 180 degrees and still install it.

You didn't by chance take the clutch rod off at the same time? My clutch rod is 2" longer than the brake rod. (Both on the left side).
