I'm trying to figure out how much rimguard to get. Its on a 1510d with rice tires. The rear tires say 8-18. That just don't sound right. I think its refering to the rim size. I need to know what the tire size is so I can get a estimate on how much rimguard I should get. I'm guessing about 20 gallons per tire. But I know thats probably off. Anyone know how much?

You can get real close by measuring your tire cross section and treating it as a piece of tubing for length. Then calculate the cubic inches in the cylinder, divide by 231 x 0.75. and this will figure the tire being 75 percent full.
If your cross section is 8 inch diameter and the rim is 18 inches in diameter your tire will hold a tad more than 13 gallons @ 75 percent full.
8-18 is the correct size for your tractor per attached chart. I cannot fine a fill chart for the 8-18 but the 7.50-18 comes in at 10 gallons. You would be close to that. Tractor tires and wheels for Yanmar tractors and other compact tractor tires Liquid Tire Ballast

Why doesn't 8-18 sound right? You do realize that tire diameters are measured at the rim, don't you?
It don't seem right cause that don't tell ya how big the tire is. Yeah the rim is 18" tall but the tire could be 6 feet tall. I just don't see how ya can figure up how many gallonls the tire will hold when you don't know what the true size of the tire is.
For what it is worth to you I recently filled my ym2002d 8.3-24 rice tires with appx 11 gallons. The chart shows 13 gallons. You are to leave a little air space for cushion. You can't get that much in a 8-18.

I don't know what to tell you, except that they have been sizing tires that way forever. Where you been:confused2:? It takes a little arithmatic to figure the volume.
Looks like your tire's total volume is about 17 gallons, so I would go by Winston's numders. They are normally filled to the valve stem, (at the top).

Tire size in general: that '18' is the diameter of the rim. (or the ID of the tire). And 8 is the width of the tire casing. (not the tread). Ok so far?
Now the part that isn't obvious: There is another number, the height-to-width ratio of the tire casing, the portion between the rim and the ground. On cars 70% height-to-width is probably the most common. You've probably seen '50 series' and '40 series', maybe even lower, on kids street-racer Hondas and on the big 24" rims on low-rider Suburbans where the rim nearly touches the ground.
Older cars used 80 series tires, height of casing = 80 % of width. I think big trucks are at least 80%. I assume tractor tires are also around 80% casing height to width. With the big cleats on rice tires they may be 100% height to width overall but the interior volume would be more like 80%.
So - Lets work up a rough estimate of height for an 8 x 18 rice tire. 18" for the rim. 8" rim-to-ground. (assuming 100% height/width). Another 8" above the rim. Total height 8 + 18 + 8 = 34" overall height. How close does this come to what you measured?
Ok, all of that is just theory. For figuring Rimguard volume just find your size tire on a chart.
