Some of us long for the good ole days when we would just shoot the trespasser, dig a hole and forget about it.

I sympathize with you. Trespassing is an extremely difficult subject to deal with, simply because the law really is on their side much more than yours in many areas. And stuff like "squatter's rights" is even crazier!

We've had trespassers argue with us (as in trying to claim that they have use of the land, too) when we've confronted them and tell them to leave. We've had trespassers vandalize and destroy our property and shoot our animals. We are not fans of trespassers.

Best, legal advice I can say is post, confront, and hassle the popo until they take care of the problem. It also doesn't hurt to scare the s*** out of trespassers, either...the crazier they think you are, the less likely they are to come back.

I think it depends on each state's trespassing laws. My insurance agent suggested I post a 'No Trespassing' sign on our 35-acres after we bought it.

Besides the obvious reasons for such a sign, Colorado has an archaic law that allows squatters to take possession of part or all of your land if they have been using it for 18-years with/without your knowledge and/or approval. A Peoples' Republic of Boulder couple lost part of their vacant land with killer mountain views because a shyster lawyer couple knew of this law and made sure to use just enough of the neighbor's land to take enough away from them and prevent the rightful owners from building on their own land.

Shakespeare was right about what to do with lawyers.

Maybe we are just lucky, but we have never had a problem with trespassing. We have owned our place for nearly 30 years now and a new sudivision was built along our east fenceline about five years ago.
It must be this warning sign that keeps 'em away?

Any-one looking for cameras ,for this purpose,I found and puchased this camera.It is a daytime only,no flash.
Mount them high and a little camo tape.Similar to/clone of plotwatcher.
Batteries don't last long in extreme cold weather,but most trespass problems are in summer and fall.

That sign would actually work on some people. A neighbor referred to our goats (which looks just like the picture on your sign) as "rams".

Unfortunately the people that sign would work on probably aren't the ones we're all really concerned with

I had purchased the vacant waterfront lot next door to me.
We were plagued with fishermen and their trash as well as nudists using the waterfront.
When polite requests were ignored I found that letting the air out of 2 tires greatly helped the situation.

To be on the cautious side, I never approached the squatters from my side as I wanted to avoid retaliation
Also during hunting season I'd be carrying my shotgun..
