Can someone kindly post some photos of different views of the 425 snow plow/dozer blade back side views of the pivot mechanism and side views if anyone has them. I just made up an 18 inch high dozer blade in my press brake, and a 12 inch high blade for the back of my 425 for my hydraulic winch set up, and don't want to reinvent the wheel if PT has a good rig to copy, or if someone's made their own and is willing to share their ideas.

Also had anyone come up with a spectacular technology to grease the ball joint ends on all of PT's home made hydraulic cylinders. Terry told me to use Lithium based grease on them. I got a spray can of lithium grease but it seems awfully thin for the application. I was going to use a hospital syringe for IV injections and fill it with regular lithium grease and try to pressure it into the joints. Any ideas.

Thanks Muchly

I'm not terribly impressed with the snow blade for anything but snow. There's quite a bit of flex and slop in the whole setup. It's quite prone to chattering. If I were building a new one, it would be much more heavily and rigidly built. Since it's not used for lifting, mass is good.

One other thing I don't care for is that the pivot pin is welded in place. If it was easily removable, I might be able to use the base and cylinder for something else the rest of the year - maybe some sort of vertical grapple.

I don't have pix and it's dark, cold and windy here. Maybe somebody else can help.

For the ball joints, I use a spray lube with teflon. There are several that go on thin. Lithium grease doesn't penetrate well. I've thought of drilling and installing grease fittings, but I think that would weaken it too much.

I took a few pictures. See attached. I have used the snow blade for muddy dirt smoothing going backwards. You can angle the blade left to right. Nice feature. Kinda worked ok. It is not a dozer.

Looks to me like their should be a grease fitting on that pivoting post. I don't see one, but have not really looked closely.

Your blade is quite a bit different from mine. Mine does not have the welded supports for the casters. The casters were an extra cost option that I didn't buy, so my blade has some bolt holes for the brackets. It also looks like yours has extra bracing around the pivot.

I see what you mean. Thanks guys, will try to improve construction.Gonna use a 1.5 inch pivot pin and thread one end for a lock nut so I can remove it easily, and also use precision replaceable bushings in the pivot tube assembly so I can keep this rig tight. Already bent a two inch back lip on the top of the 18 inch blade with the press brake to stiffen the top, and will run transverse stiffeners for cylinder mounts at mid blade all the way out and tie them into some vertical 1/2" by 6 inch flat bar cut to match the back side of the blade edge profile. No chatter.

I use white lith when I have it or just motor oil when I don't. At 1500 hrs., no problems yet. I've even been so lax some times, where the loader sounded like an old squeaky door in a horror film.

I wouldn't use bearings. I would use 1" DOM tubing and 1" grade 8 bolt or larger if you prefer.

Not sure what your are going to do with the blade?

The PT400 series is no dozer. It does not have enough weight or traction or low gearing for that chore.

Plan on using it to spread gravel and dirt and plow snow. I agree PT 435 does not have much push power at all, but I had the chunks of steel the right size and figured I'd make a couple of blades in the press brake.

Here are photos of new PT-425 Snow Blade purchased last Dec 2010.

Note the grease nipple on the left of the pivot.

Thanks for the pictures. Did you add the grease fitting?
Mine does NOT have one.
Thanks!
