I received this in an email from my wife's cousin...new to me..

REAL ESTATE SALES TAX

" Under the new health care bill - did you know that all real estate transactions will be subject to a 3.8% Sales Tax? The bulk of these new taxes don't kick in until 2013 If you sell your $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax.
Oh, you weren't aware this was in the Health care bill? Guess what, you aren't alone. There are more than a few members of Congress that aren't aware of it either "

Amazing thing is that the OP will continue to believe the false info :confused2:

This is a new feature of our politics...accept anything you hear that seems to reflect your beliefs...and continue to believe it no matter how clear the facts are that it is not true.

Sad part is out politicians follow this rule also...if you repeat a falsehood enough times it will become "fact" to your followers who wish it so.......

When will we begin to challenge and reject false (or GREATLY exaggerated) claims...starting first with those whose are on our "side" of the political spectrum????

Seems like we are quick to point out what is "wrong" with competitors arguments...but will let those we generally agree with "skate" by with false facts!

I think we need a major movement to get all politicians to be "more" honest in their claims...I am not naive enough to think we can eliminate ALL BS :)

FWIW...TMR

If you google the quoted phrase a lot of information comes up. It looks like it the tax would affect the top-earning two percent of families. I saw something about if you and your significant other make over $250,000. Probably more details to look into to see who would actually be affected.

FWIW "snopes" is hardly the clearing house on facts....they have been proven time after time to hold a liberal bias....

And please don't try and come back with the spiel about the so called neutral ownership of the site...it's by design...FYI...

Not true. No tax. It's a bunch of nonsense. Just like the "death panels" who were going to decide if the elderly should live or die based on the cost to treat them.
Come on folks. Let's do our homework and stop believing everything we read.

Hey TMR !

Get your facts straight before you post nonsense.. I did not say I believed it - here is what I actually said in my post

" I received this in an email from my wife's cousin...new to me.."

I posted that to give everyone a heads up and a chance to post their opinion. Keep in mind the law could be written so that if you and your wife only made $50K a yr. but sold your house or property for say $255K that would mean for that one year you made $305K which would put you over the $250K threshold and you would pay a higher income tax since the sales price would be counted as ordinary income..that is the way it has been in the past.

An old saying...get the facts or they will get you...again, I did not ever post that I endorsed it..I said it was " new to me " :(

...Just like the "death panels"...

do you even know what the term means?...if you did you would realize they are a fact....they are not actual panels of individuals who will say who lives and dies...if you were truly informed on the subject you would know that the basics gist of the subject is true...

The biggest reason there are so many misunderstandings about 'obamecare' is because of the way it was legislated...i.e., behind closed doors in a 100% partisan boondoggle incubator... it was passed by a partisan vote by legislators that had no idea of what was really in it (obamecare bill)...

It was opposed by a majority (over 70%) of Americans...and that is why it or most of it will NOT BE FUNDED....

So all the union members and other (adjective omitted) souls that continue to support the measure....fail to see the big picture and will be shown again in Nov. 2012...much like they were in Nov. 2010...

They (supporters) remind me of a joke about a stubborn mule and having to get its attention with a 2x4...:D

Well, there is a tax, but it looks like it's a 3.8% tax on investment income, the first 250k doesn't apply, you make over 200k in general, blah, blah, blah and whatever other details lawyers and accountants need to figure out.

It's just being twisted around for the folks who don't do their homework like you said. Just to get a rise out of people. It's crazy but it works. People take what they want out of it without digging a bit deeper.
