851 Powermaster vs tiller

I purchased a Yanmar tiller last summer from a friend that used in a horse corral.
His tractor was a 801 and the dirt was always soft.
When I hooked it up to the Powermaster and gave a try, (NO WAY)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It picked up the back of the tractor and pushed me around the place like a kid in a wagon. It gave me a scare at first the a good laugh (so I wouldn't wet myself).
Is there some differance in the gearing of an 851 vs 801 that would cause this???

what transmission does his tractor have (what model). You both have 801 "series". Yours is a 851 "model" which means you have a 5 speed.

When I landscaped my new house a few years ago, I bought a used Yanmar RS1200 rototiller (48" wide) to use with my 2005 Kubota B7510HST tractor. That tiller is a light weight unit designed for use in the rice fields. It really bounced around on hard, dry ground. I had to use my middle buster plow to break up the soil and then follow it with the tiller. The hydrostatic tranny is a real help with that tiller because you can just crawl along and give the tiller a chance to do its thing.

What HP is your 851?

I have a TSC 5' tiller fairly heavy duty and my Mahindra 3325 handles it just fine. My soil is kind of mixed not light or to heavy. My Mahondra is 35 HP.

his 851 is around 45 hp.. but that's not the issue..it's ground speed that is the issue.. fords have tall gears till you get to the 8spd trannies. or have aux post trannis installed.

as was said.. you bothg have 801 series.. you have 851 model.

he may have had an 871 or 881 that has a 10spd powershift tranny that has a low gear. or he may have had a howard or everette post tranny that dropped his ground speed without effecting his pto speed.

fords are good plow tractors.. and unless in soft soil and lots of hp and small tiller and a 5spd.. not great tillers. go to the 8spd and yep.. good tiller machines.. etc.

I had (sold it a few years back) the early 4 cylinder Ford 4000 with the Selectospeed and in 1st gear it did fine. I've read the Hundred series with the manual transmissions were pretty high geared to till with. My tiller is a Grey market 60" and does okay in sandy/loam soil. bjr

yep.. same as an 871 or 881 the sos.. etc.. 10spd powershift..
