My 2008 F250, Super Duty, 17,000 miles, 4x4, 5.4 ltr, 3.73 differentials, lightfootn' it, the best overall average I can get is 13.0. It's a great truck except the mileage. I tried a K&N air filter, no change. Don't know what to try next.

Nothing. Thats the price you pay with the 5.4 in that heavy of a truck. It would actually probably do a little better with 4.10 gears.

My 1990 suburban (which is for sale) has 4:56 gears, 350 and turbo 400 tranny. With the 6 inch lift and 37 inch tires, it gets 12.5 on the road (55-65 mph) and 8-9 city driving in the winter. Great power band with the gearing.

If I push 75 to 77 mph, mileage drops off into the toilet at a whopping 4-5mpg :) darn low rear end kills fuel economy since engine is taching soooo high

I don't think it's the rear end as much as the aerodynamics (or lack thereof).

My impression is that a manual tranny will help about 4-5 mpg. We had a 2002 F250 4x4 SD diesel that pretty regularly averaged 20.8 around home (rural). I saw a review of the identical truck but with the automatic and they got 15 mpg. Likewise, when we traded for the C3500 with the Allison, mileage dropped to around 16-17.

Although I haven't done extensive towing, I've noticed that I get about the same 10.5-11 whether I'm towing a horse trailer, or an equipment trailer. But I never go over 60 when I'm towing.

Even not towing, mpg drops when I go from 60 to 70 to 75. I think I've got the 3.73 rear end. There was one trip where we needed to push it and running 68 to 75 dropped the mpg dramatically even through the engine is just getting into the power band. Normally I don't run those speeds,

Econ your truck is diesel right? You must have pretty steep hills.

One thing I have learned is MPG vary more for where you live then anything. My idea of city driving is maybe 10 stops in 1 hour. Go to Dallas or NYC and you will do 10 stops in 10 minutes.

As for my 1 ton its a 2006 F-350 4x4 SRW PowerStroke. It has a Quadzilla chip, 4" exhaust, and MAC intake and filter. I average 17 mpg all the time. On pure highway it gets 23 mpg. Towing varies. Pulling a 15,000# boat does better than pulling a 8,000# camper. Again aerodynamics.

ditto that.. 10 minutes of city driving here is 20 stops!

i don't know.. my truck has to tach 2750 to make those speeds and redlines about 3300.. so I'm pretty well winding up to get to 77mpw.. like I said.. dropping back to 67-72 gets me closer to 2500.. and that makes a huge fuel difference.

between the engine rpm and rear end.. it has to be accounting for something.. no tow mode in that truck either.. just the od lockout.. that never gets used as I couldn't get to 55 easilly :)

I am happy with my Dodge 6.7 w/Aisin and 4.10's towing ~11000 @ 60-65 yields 13.5 mpg
Tow/haul mode and the engine brake are just an added bonus :)
