I've been looking for a crewcab F-450 for awhile now.
I found an early '06 Lariat crewab 4x4 with a 6.0. I'm pretty close to jumping on it, however I've got a few reservations about the diesel. The truck has 118k on it, and I'm thinking that if it was going to have problems, it would have had them by now, or they would have been taken care of by now it it did.
They want about 25k for it, but it's been on there lot since at least early Nov, so I'm hoping that they want to be rid of it and I can get it for a few grand less.
I'm going to see if the Ford dealer will run an oasis report on it to see what if any work has been done.
So, any thoughts on the potential for major problems at this stage of it's life?

thanks

06 was notorious for bad diesels. Man it's a hard decision. Buying cheap is a good thing but if anything goes wrong you're fixing an old truck and the price goes right back up.

I would offer them 15K and walk away if they don't take it.

The 03 and 04 6.0's were the one with issue. By 05 they were very good and 06 and 07 were the best of the 6.0's. I have a 04 and a 06 with no problems out of either.

If its NOT a 4x4 the price seems way high.

6.0 Power Stroke Ford Diesels, great towing motor. My 05 has towed my 11,000 RV across the USA a few times. To be perfectly honest I have had some issues, turbo replaced, ball joints and rear main seal replaces. This was all done with under 50,000 miles and was covered under warranty. I have had the the other two Diesels and although that were ok the Ford Diesel out tows them both. Hopefully the problems are behind my truck now, but we'll have to see as the cost of the new ones is just plan crazy.

Couldn't give me a 6.0. You can have 10,000$ of repairs on the engine, then drop another 10,000$ a month later. A few guys get very lucky, most get burned, even on the late ones, even if they aren't chipped.

I would walk away, or plan on saving to put a cummins in it the first trouble the 6.0 gives you.

i agree that unless it is 4x4 or has some hidden options that 25k is too much.

I have a 04 with a 6.0 with a lil over 100K miles on it... running fine ( think it needs a gp or two ).. and a 99 f450 with 7.3 that is at 123k and going strong.

Why don't you just say you don't like it because it is a Ford and tell him to buy a Dodge?
