Looking at an F-450

The 6.0's are a crap shoot. Some are very good. Others not so much. When they do break down they are VERY expensive to fix. 05 and 06 were the best years for them.

Do NOT chip a 6.0. They can make silly power chipped but they will have problems if you chip them and you will be looking at replacing the head gaskets and going to arp head studs. I know this from experience and it is not a cheap fix.

Take the truck to an independent mechanic and have a leak down test done on it. The head gaskets are a really common issue on this motor due to the torque to yield head bolts.

I own an F350, 4 dr, cc, 4wd SD myself, and think its a great truck. I like almost everything about it, but I'd not wish a 6.0 on anyone.

There are endless stories of people getting burned by them. A good friend bought one that had just been gone through. Headgaskets, egr cooler, injectors. The previous owner was sick of the money spent on it and not having it available. He bought it cheap thinking perfect, everything has been fixed, I'll have no troubles, then had to put another 14,000$ into the engine within a month.

Why have that kind of time bomb hanging over you?

Those are just in the last week or two, in a not so busy forum.
I saw someone on TBN got lucky last and had their 6.0 FCIM replaced for cheap. Robert someone, most aren't so lucky.

Why don't you just say you don't like it because it is a Ford and tell him to buy a Dodge?

Robert someone? Have you forgot me already :D :D :D

Yeah, my FICM was covered under warranty which I was lucky. Overall I have been pleased with the 6.0 but am not going to get rid of it anytime soon because there isn't much market out there for a 6.0. While I have been happy I would advise the OP of this thread to pass on the truck listed. The dealership we bought our truck from doesn't want it back and if they do take it they won't give us a lot for it. The 6.0 has a bad reputation mainly from the first couple years and it has killed resale on the trucks. I will keep mine till I either get a good trade/offer on it or it starts costing way too much to keep. Hopefully I get another 4 years out of it before I start sinking a lot of money in it.

my 6.0, knock on wood, didn't have those issues,. a have a buddy that got one same year.. no issues either..

I like the 7.3 in my 450.. though the 250/6.0 sure is pepier... :).. but then.. it won't tow as much either.. so.. :)

what do you want all the cab for? That's got to be one long truck.

That would be my first choice, but if one with a pickup bed came along at a good price,I'd jump on it. There weren't any factory pickup beds on 450's until '08, and most of those are more $$ than I'm looking to spend. If the truck in the ad had a V-10 in it, it'd be sitting in my driveway right now.
What I want is a 4x4 crewcab flatbed with a power group. Everything else is optional...

I looked a long time for same thing and its hard to fine if you don't want to pay and arm and leg. If that one was around here I would have looked at it. If you can get them to come off the price some it should make you a good truck. I do agree dont chip it as they don't seem to last as long.
