SF or higher grade (as per manufacturer). As said in the other post, I use Rotella-T 15W-40 in everything. If you want to use automotive oil, put in 10W-30 - can't go wrong with that.

These little gens just need clean oil. Strait 30 weight, 10W30, or 15W40 diesel oil will be fine.

It also helps to know what kind of environment you will be using this equipment in (temp wise).
