Hoping somone might point me in the right direction with my 770. Was plowing snow Wednesday when the the tractor just shutdown. I found that the negative battery cable had come loose. I reconnected the cable but now the tractor wont start. It will crank but it's acting like it's not getting fuel. Anyone have any tips or suggestions

If you were at the Negative why not also check the Positive because you never know. Also did you bump any other wiring in that area. Do you have a bleed screw on the fuel system?

Do you have a procedure to check if it is getting fuel? That would be a first step. Drain the water off the filter bowl and consider changing the fuel filter.
What is the status of the diesel fuel? Fresh? Stale?

Need some more info from your end. :)

Fuel is fresh and treated.

I haven't had time to really look at it. I'm going to call my neighbor and see if he can come up with his 4400 and push me into my garage tonight so I can really look at it.

I did check both cables, the tractor will crank, just not fire

Based on your location do you or have you used the machine in these lower temperatures. The suggestions by ( been there ) are the next step because you fixed the loose connection problem.

Try jumping it from another battery. Your starter may not be turning fast enough.

My 770 seem susceptable to fuel gelling. If you have a questionable fuel filter and non-treated fuel, my bet is that. In fact it may have stalled due to fuel starvation. The loose ground might be just a lucky find.

Getting it into a nice warm garage is a good idea. Warm it up overnight, charge the battery, Drain any water accumulation and clean out the fuel filter housing, change the fuel filter, top it off with fuel and some additive (Howes, Power Service, Stanadyne, etc.) and I bet it'll be fine.

Sorry to hear that.

Looks like some good advice right here. Let us know what you find.

I know on the 770 you can run them out of fuel and they are self bleeding, though there is a shut off valve to be used when checking the fuel filter. I am near certain that is what I read in the manual.

Haven't had to do this but I dread the day I do. Well, let's hope not.
