Hi Guys,

I was moving snow today and heard a strange creaking from left axle.

I jacked the tractor up and spun the wheels slowly. There is a definite slight

bind and creak on the left axle. The tractor is pretty much new with 230 hours on it.

Does anybody have thoughts other than taking wheel off and cracking the case

the left side?

It is a metal sound so I fear the worse of a broken gear or a bearing.

The hydro fluid is perfect and never heard any weird noises from it.

I though the wheel was flexing until I jacked it.

Thoughts?

Many thanks.

TIGHTEN THE WHEELS AND AXLE CLAMPS ! see the manual for proper torque

Yep!

That was it.
Interestingly I had not checked them since the 100 hour mark.

Tightened them up and it is perfect once again.

I feel like an idiot! But I am so happy that I was able to solve it.

Thanks Guys !!!!

Just now came across this thread and was about to make the same suggestion. I recently traded in a B7510, partly for that reason. Didn't need them anyway. Moving the rear wheels in made the thing super unstable, especially if I tried using the fel.

I couldn't keep the rear wheels tight. Even had to replace a set of the dogs a year or so ago. If you let them go too long, they will wear and the wheel will creak and groan even when tightened.

One piece of advice that I learned from experience; Tighten the wheels, then move the tractor a few feet and tighten them again. Do that several times until you can't tighten them any further at the specified torque.

Other than that issue I loved that little tractor I only traded it in because I needed a little more horsepower, so got an L3400. That said, it did everything I asked of it, and at times I asked a lot. I actually felt like I was driving off and leaving an old friend when I left it at the dealership. One tough little machine.

Best way to do the rear wheels is to remove the rims, remove the axle clamps and clean everything.

Then put some never seize on the outside of the clamps, then assemble.

Mine have stayed tight for years, yes have the weight off the hub before tightening makes a difference
