Polaris Ranger Seat Nets

I noticed that the 2011 Polaris Ranger's have nets on the sides of the seats. Why did they add them? What are they for? (obviously safety related)

Possibly trying to minimize chances for a class action lawsuit like Yamaha has been involved with the past several years with the Rhino?
I removed the nets on my 2011 Ranger 800 XP.
