I've been using pam on my bucket and blade for years. Recently the cans were frozen in the barn and wouldn't spray much. WD40 was frozen too. So I tried spraying the smelliest spray lube I have, it really has a nasty odor so I avoid it when I can. Anyhow I sprayed the bucket and blade with Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protectant and nothing stuck after days in sticky slushy icey and powdery snow. You can smell it on the tractor hours after applying it. Must have wax in it, cause I just read on their web that it's a good motorcycle chain lube and most of those are full of wax. Cool thing is , the can worked at 20 degrees when the other products wouldn't.

I'd comment that whatever you use ends up going down the sewer next spring, so the pam or WD-40 are probably better than a petroleum based product. WD-40 is fish oil, supposedly it won't hurt you if you eat it, can't say I've tried it.

WD 40 is made with petroleum distillates and apparently contains no fish oil per the myths and facts published by the company.

I got busted using PAM.... The GF was wondering why all the spray PAM was always near empty during the winter and then she spotted me sneaking the can out to the snowblower.

Now I have to get my OWN can if I want to use any.

Spray cans of PAM don't go very far. How about using cooking oil sprayed out of a garden sprayer or hand spray bottle. You can get pails of it for turkey fryers at places like Sams Club. Or better yet, if you don't mind filtering it some, get some used cooking oil or save the stuff when you change out the fryer oil to spray on the snowblower?

Try Dollar tree, they sell spray cooking oil there for One dollar.....used bacon grease would work in a pinch.

Good to know. I was listening to a program on the radio and they were supposedly interviewing the guy who invented the stuff, can't remember if it is the same name as in that article, and he said it was based on fish oil. I was surprised because it smells like petroleum, but I thought that might be the aerosol. Anyway, now I can't even believe the radio anymore, guess the internet is the only ultimate source of accurate info, assuming you search enough.

I've seen the WD-40 fish oil myth online in an email, and the message went on to list all sorts of uses for the "safe" product, which could have resulted in some serious health issues. You have to be careful about unidentified web sources. Rust-oleum used to use fish oil in their paints, but that was years ago. If you Google a home remedy for getting rid of pet urine odors, you'll find several references to combining vinegar and baking soda . It's a setup, since when you add the baking soda, the whole thing will fizz up in your face !
