A little off topic - but still building . . .

We built a heated shop/garage this fall and now we are enclosing the corner where the dog doors are. The room will be 10' x 12' and it's in the corner so there's only two walls to build. The walls are shorter than the building's walls so there will be a storage over the kennel.

My question is the material supplier sent 2x6's to run the 12' length instead of the 10' length. Will there be much difference in the strength if the 2x6's are run the longer length instead of the shorter length?

Oh yeah, we park the JD 4600 inside the same building.

Not sure if I follow your question.

Are the 2 x 6 for rafters?

Is this room you are building within the larger building?

Need a bit more info.

If they are for your overhead storage, you won't be able to put as much weight up there :confused2:

Cut the extra off and set them to the 10' span...re-cut the drops into solid bridging and nail them through the center of the span...this will help distribute loads...

Inside the NW corner of the building where the 3 doggy doors are, is the dog kennel. We want to enclose the interior area by building two walls and have storage above it. The 2x6's are the ceiling joists for the room and support the storage area. The ceiling will be just above the far left window in the pic.

The answer will depend on the load, the joist spacing, and the lumber type.

That's what I was thinking even though I'll need to buy a few more 10' 2x6's.

You can cut off the excess and use those pieces for spanners between the joists to keep them from twisting... besides, it adds to the strength of your deck.
