OK, I did search but I have not found the answer.
Kubota M9540 - manual says for the front axle case and the front differential that you can use either UDT Hydraulic fluid OR SAE 80-90 gear oil.

There is a big difference in these two types of oil. Dealer says they put in UDT Hydraulic fluid whenever they do fluid changes.
I am not questioning the dealer, I just wonder how the thinner hydraulic fluid can be OK for the axle case and differential.

Yup, it's that way from the smallest Kubota on up. Yes, they appear to be vastly different, but they both lubricate. Kubota made it easy, Take your choice.

Frankly, I like synthetic 75w-90. Most places now sell it for the same price as the dino. The quicker flow more mimics the sudt, but my gut says it protects and sticks when I really work the 4x4.

It is entirely your choice.

They say the same thing for all of the Kubota's. Can tell you how it works though.

The dealer did the first change at 100 hours and said they put in UDT. I am now at 600 hours and doing the fluid and filter changes myself. I does make it easier to purchase just one type of fluid.
Just wondering since SAE 80-90 is so much thicker. :confused3:

JD,
I hope on the 9540 they give you a better way to get the old oil out. On my MX5000 there are little drain plugs on each of the fron hubs but that requires the oil to "flow" through the bearings to get out.

For the ease of getting the old oil out I would go with the UDT.

JDJDJD,I have 1000 hrs on my L39 all in 4wd and full loader buckets on uneven ground. When your front seals start to seep which they will eventually you can try going to the heavier gear oil and alot of times it will slow it down to a trickle,so says my kubota mechanic. He also says they just use udt on all their changes because it is covenient.I still use the udt and let kubota replace my seals under warranty, but now that the repair bill will be on me next time when they start to seep again I am going to try the gear oil .

Just drain it after using it. I've used both Premium UDT and 80w90. I can notice in the winter the 80w90 takes a bit of power to move when its -30 C.

Thus the synthetic gear lube, 75w-90.

SUDT/UDT: I honestly think it comes with it because it is "what's in the gun" to fill 'em when they are being assembled. Nothing wrong with it. I just have always run gear lube in my truck pumpkin and in my boat's lower unit.

The dealerships will usually have Tractor HYD Fluid in a bulk system that dispenses, they buy the oil bulk so it's cheaper to them. 80-90 would not be a big volume mover for most, so they get drums or even pails of that, and handling it will be a pain compared to the other oil in the shop.
I'm with the idea of the 75-90 synthetic. I'd probably double the interval of change with that oil and not worry a bit.

I have an M8540 and used SUDT in the hydraulic system/transmission. (I only say this to make a point that I am not making decisions based on what costs less.) However, when it came to the front diff and bevel gears I used 80/90 gear lube. I think the brand was Case because my Kubota dealer is also a Case dealer. I figured gear lube belonged in gear cases. Since Kubota said it was OK I chose that route.
