Scafer for Boxblade

Started building a boxblade in the fall and had put it away for the winter as I do not have a heated garage to work on it. After reading some forums on here, I got it out and have been using it to move snow. I still need to install scafers on it in the spring and I was just wondering what I should use. I do not want to spend alot of money on this and I am trying to use scraps I have around the farm. I have some scrap steel and was going to try to make my own scafers but was wondering if I could use tines off a triple K that I have lying around. Would they hold up when I do my laneway or would they just snap in half? Here are some pics of the boxblade, I will need to make some modifications to the 3 point hitch in the spring.

I think you are meaning "scarifier". I am going to be building my own box blade this spring, and I am gong to make them out of 2-1/2 x 3/4 bar stock to mimic commercially available ones. not sure if I am going to try to put cutting teeth on, or just cover the "J" portion cutting tooth with hard face welding for abrasion resistance.

Those are designed to "give" I think they are called "S" tines and have spring to them. You could use it but it's very different from the very ridged box blade tines. If you are looking for aggressive deep digging, the S tines will not work that well. S tines break up dirt clogs very well.

Just want to use it to level out the driveway, I will not be using it on a regular bases. Drive way is based sand and gravel with 3/4 clear top.

I bought a used box blade a few years ago to do our driveway (800+') as well as neighbors plus family members & I think I have used the scarifiers grading twice. I will cut ALOT more than you think.

Mine is a Woods/Gill blade with the flip over scarifiers, which make it easier to engage the rippers than the standard type, & I still don't really use them very often.

I'd try yours as-is & see if you really need them.

Blade is 54" wide and was planning to use 4 or 5 at about 1 to 2 inch depth.
