Mowing gear box speed 540 or 1000?

when mowing highway right of ways in the south(florida), what gearbox would be best? 540 or 1000? going to be using JD 6615 100hp

Is your tractor set up with a 1000 rpm? I use 540 with my 15' batwing and that has worked out great so far.

either pto speed will pull a batwing just fine.the q is this is your shredder a 540 or 1000.my shredder is 540 so i rev up to 2000rpms or more,im supposed to run at 2700rpms to fully use 540 speed.

For sure it needs to be a heavy duty - I think "cat 5" drive line is the right term.
which is a 150hp rating (i think)

No difference in the operation but when you go to sell or trade it a 540 cutter is worth more than a 1000 cutter because of the size of the market.

True, but if you buy a cutter to use, not trade, and have 1000 RPM capability, that is a better option over time in terms of driveline component maintenence. 1000 RPM drivelines transmit more torque with less failure than a 540 driveline.

Since HP= Constant x Torque x RPM, I think you mean to say that the 1000 rpm pto will transmit the same horsepower as the 540 rpm pto with less shaft torque and therefore is easier on the pto shaft.
