Trying to decide if this is a good enough tractor for me. I have 86 acres with 15 acres of woods. I will use the tractor to haul wood to the house with the FEL and the 3 point hitch. I have ALLOT of dirt/clay piles from a dug pond that I will be moving to a new location. I mow with a 90" finishing mower. And also move snow in the winter. Are there any Kubota models that might be worth the extra $'s. Maybe the M5140?

Also, any negatives on the HST?

Thanks.

The biggest challenge is to know when to say "enough". Unless you have to negotiate tight spots, bigger is often better - but a tractor without implements is no fun. I suspect that you'll be fine with this machine. For loader work, there is nothing that beats HST. Do you need to mow the rest of the land - and if so, how much time do you have? Good luck.

There are several MX5100 owners on here including bigbull338 that should be able to give you some good information on them. They seem like a pretty good machine if you are looking at something a little heavier duty than the L00/GL40 Series, but still have an HST. If transmission type is not important, I would probably look at the M40 Series.

I use both HST and gear and agree for a lot of loader work, you can't beat HST.

Good info, keep it coming.

Why is it that the MX5100 3-point hitch is rated atleast 300 lbs. less than all the L series Kubotas??

The reason for my concern is that I have forks rigged up so that I can pile 32" length logs on it. If the trees are a hard wood I have piled enough that it would lift the front of my JD 2240 w/600# of front ballast. So, I need a durable 3-point hitch. The JD 2240 hitch is rated the same as the MX5100, but I swear it will lift just about anything I put on it....

Thanks.

i have an MX5100 HST 4X4 with LA844 loader.we use it to haul an feed 1500lb round bales.an its pulled a flat bed trailer loaded with fire wood no probs.personally i dont think youll have ant need to go over the rear lift cap.an you cant go wrong with the HST.

I have a MX 5100. I have the rear tires loaded and HST and it has pretty good power to size machine. I pull a three 16 inch bottom plow. Loader does a nice job digging in i have not had to move much clay since we have mostly top soil here. It also starts really well in cold weather its been in the single digits here and it always starts. It also pushes snow like a mule i have been plowing with the bucket and i have made some pretty big sledding hills and moved back some pretty big piles, we have not seen grass all winter here in NY. good luck

Thanks for the info, I think I'm sold on the MX5100 HST. But, I still don't understand why the smaller L series tractors have 300 pounds more lifting capacity on their 3-point hitch than the MX5100. The MX5100 is class II rated too and the smaller L's are only class I. Go figure...

Thanks.
