Hi. Thinking of buying a 2150 and would welcome any opinions/advice. I have a 20 hp tractor now and need another machine for the bigger jobs. There's a 2150 locally that looks right... 4wd,loader,2500 hrs. What's the reputation of the 50 series? What's a reasonable price? Other models to look at in this price range? ..... Etc . Thanks.

The 50 series were great tractors. The smaller ones, 2150-2950 IIRC, were made in Mannheim Germany. We have a 2550 (65 hp) and it has been a great tractor, has about 2700hrs on it now, no major repairs. Not sure what a reasonably price is but they will be priced high, these held their value pretty well. There are numerous different transmission options as well as other features that can alter the price also.

As for other JD models, If you are looking for something with 40-45 PTO hp you could look at the 1020, 1530, 2040, 1250 for older models, or the newer 5000 series starting with the 5200, etc.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. A friend has a 1050 that I've been around since new. Has held up well through constant use ... Mowing, loading , and on the job as a landscape contractor and nurseryman. Seems like a tuff little basic tractor . Wondering how big to go for pushing snow, loading logs(firewood), maintaining road, etc. ... General work around our 45 acre farm . ...?

Anything around 40-50 pto hp is a good size for a general utility tractor. The 1050, 1250, 1450, 1650 were made by Yanmar for Deere and as such the parts availability isn't quite what it used to be (still most things are available thourgh Deere.) They were great tractors, but were kinda overshadow by the 2150 and 2350 for general farm use.
