The electric cars and future gas cars will have electronic speedometers that will transmit to the pump how many miles you have driven and you will be taxed according to the vehicle you drive and the miles you have driven. It's a crock no matter which way you turn.

The only way to stop the government's anti rural policies is to vote the rich lawyers and professional politicians out of office. The last election in Maryland demonstrated the problem. The liberal governor won the election, when the news paper showed the results by precinct only Baltimore city and the 2 counties between Baltimore and Washington DC had voted for him the rest went to the challenger. The problem is the city dwellers will go out and vote while the rural people for the most part do not bother.

I drive a factory dedicated compressed natural gas Honda Civic GX as my daily driver. I get almost 40 mpg on average and pay $1.27/gallon or about 3 cents/mile.

Utah has amazing CNG infrastructure so I can get anywhere in the state and fill. The money stays local and doesn't go to British Petroleum or Saudi Arabia. Works for me. I see a lot of Ford F-150's and vans that have been converted for dual fuel around here. But Utah, although being a conservative state, views energy independence at a high priority, so we have funding for alternative fuels and tax incentives that make it all work. We even just got our first Liquid Natural Gas station for natural gas semis. Cleaner air and cheaper fuel are the result.

Part of the state budget problems are that people are driving less (and more fuel efficient cars) so the tax revenue from gas has not kept pace and now they are trying to figure out how to add taxes so we also pay for the number of miles driven. As we get more electric cars, the state loses out on the taxes from gas and starts looking at how to tax electric car owners for the miles driven...

Exactly right, a rebate to purchase a GM car then next a tax for not buying enough fuel???

If the high price of fuel isn't enough, I got my paycheck today and had a nice little deduction. Illinois income tax went from 3% to 5%, which is a 67% increase. OUCH.

What about anyone who draws a monthly pension check, 2.5% to 3.5% less because of a federal tax increase!! Has anyone else noticed??

That's great!! I wish our state would do that.
