My tractor says it has 45 hp at the pto a 7' tiller is rated at 50 to 65 hp a 6' is rated 35 to 50. what do yall think would be the better choice here. Do you think i could work the larger tiller as its intended to be used with 45 hp at the pto.

Dependes on the dirt. You normally want to cover your wheel tracks in one pass if possible. The tractor needs a very slow ground speed to do a good job with any tiller. Wider width provides more forward push to the tractor. I am sure others will have good input. With three tillers in use during the spring time these are my thoughts.

With 45HP at the PTO I wouldn't think you'd have any want for power, even with an 84 inch tiller. This assumes you are geared down enough - just like 2458n pointed out. How wide is your rear tire track, outside to outside?

I have a 5' KK tiller and have used it on 22, 30, and 45 HP pto. No problems in any case. All will power it fine but 45 lets you move a little faster. .. Based on my dirt - If 6' will cover you tracks Id say go with 6' for virgin or long fallowed ground. But if your going to make a habit of tilling an area year by yr the 7' would be ~OK at 1st and then great on succeeding years.

I would get the biggest tiller tractor would run well at the price I could afford. That being said, I have a 6' K.K. that I run with a Kioti DK45S and it could easily do more.

I assume you have a HST tractor. There tends to be fairly significant price jump in a 7' tiller vs a 6' tiller. Both would work with a 45 hp pto but the 6' maybe more ideal. A 6' tiller in hard ground takes a lot of power.

We have the 6 ft Tarter for $1795 and the 6 ft Hawkline by Behlen for $1695. Both geardrive and slip clutch and 6 tines per rotor. Ken Sweet

I have a landpride RTA2570 (70") on a 42.5 PTO hp, with the 6 tine option and it did fine most of the time as far as power goes. There are some times its all she wanted....depends were and what your in it and how deep your going. It was a good match for me. Your soil may be different than mine.
