I am having trouble deciding on whether to purchase a 2009 Kuboda b3030 hsd with 183 hrs versus a 2002 challeger mt 295. Both come with FEL and both are exactly the same price...I own about 12 acres of very sandy soil in central Kansas. Any advice???

Two totally different tractors,30hp Kubota,44hp Iskei built tractor...how much hp do you need, local dealers for support?I own Kubota but Iskei has a good reputation. The Challenger was built 2003-2005...how may hours..what kind of shape, etc.
look at TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors check specs on each

Buy the Kubota. You will be pleased.

The Challenger has 462 hours and is is good shape. The Kubota is essentially brand new. I think I am leaning toward the kuboda, must I just don't want to make the mistake of underpowering myself.

What are your planned uses of the tractor going to be???

How many acres do you own???

What sized implements do you plan on running???

Do you have a local dealer for support of either???

What kind of prices??

These are the questions that can help narrow it down a bit. But if you are already worried about the 'bota being TOO small, you will probabally be disappointed if you get it.

EDIT: I just seen you already gave the prices and your acreage. If both are the same price, and IF you have dealer support or are mechanically inclined, I would lean toward the bigger one for the same price. It shouldnt be too big for your 12 acres as long as you dont plan on finish mowing your lawn with it.

In line with LD1, I would let your chores decide the "best" tractor. I would however keep in mind you are looking at a tractor that has been out of production for six years to one still in production. That may not be a problem now, but parts "may" become an issue if you plan on keeping it a long time.

We all think we are buying the right tractor, but it is not uncommon for new tractor owners to buy a machine with which they are not satisfied, so consider which is going to be better to trade in or sell if in time you decide it is not right for you?

It sure is a hard choice I have to admit and I am not sure which way I would go myself.

Good luck.

The Kubota is way to small for your place in my opinion. The Challenger is a good machine and the right size to get some work done. If you're retired and have a lot of time on your hands, then the Kubota may work out fine for you. Check out the actual size and weight of these tractors, 2 completely different machines. I would get the Challenger hands down.

I'm asking the same questions as LD1

It makes absolutely no difference that the acreage is 12 acres. That tells us nothing, really.

It is the chores and tasks, not the acreage. If 10 of those acres just sit there? So, the tractor is going to do what? That's the important factor here.

I may be mistaken, but I am pretty sure that I said that I would get the Challenger. Me, not the OP. I would get the Challenger if I only had 1/2 acre, let alone 12. His 12 acres are sandy soil, so it is probably pretty much flat. And your absolutely right, he may only have a couple of acres to be worked in some manner. With the information that we were given, I told the OP what I would do. Without more information, it's sort of hard to give the OP any advice at all. Doesn't matter what he needs to do. Again for me, I would get the Challenger. ;)
