Hogs!

On my ranch down in San Saba County I killed over 200 hogs in 2009-2010. Trapped some, stalked some, killed others spotted while working the place. I carry an AR-15 in 6.8SPC caliber on my Rhino. Didn't make a dent in the population--they breed much faster than I shoot, apparently.

Wow, they disappeared up in the Ozarks, then mostly after midnight. I did get to eat some of it though...You have them in broad daylight...Jy

A couple times after killing a 200 lb hog and going back the next day and the carcass gone with no signs of blood, drag marks or foot prints of any kind. Makes we wonder if something came along picked it up, threw it over its shoulder and walked away. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

Bigfoot???

I set out a game camera to get a grip on the habits of these pests. They have destroyed a few fields and tired of cleaning up after them. They must go but we have been only able to kill about half dozen a year and the multiply like rabbits. Once we learn their habits the AR15 and everything else I have will be waging WAR!

War? hire these guys!

Some will remember this video, pretty extreme, should come with a warning for the PETA folks.

I wonder what bullet he uses in the AR-15? Supposing it is .223, it really puts those hogs down much better than I thought a 223 would!!

Great pictures of a growing nuisance. We have some feral hogs here in central Alabama, but fields and woods in southern Alabama are being destroyed by their digging and rooting. So far, no sign of any on my hunting property, but I am sure they will come sooner or later.

Hunting magazines last year warned of the dangers of field dressing them, some kind of awful disease. Meat was fine but direct contact to parts of the hog were not good.

I spent 7 hours mowing and harrowing my middle pasture this weekend to repair damage done by hogs. When I got done, I left for about three minutes and when I came back through the middle pasture there was a pig in the middle of it. Of course he wouldn't let me get close enough to hit him with the pistol I had. I set up my game camera and got this video of him the next morning. He spent about an hour and a half tearing up what I had fixed. Good news is that there appears to be just the one. I set a trap for him yesterday evening. It was empty this morning. Hopefully I'll be posting more pictures of him later this week after I trap or kill him.

We are up to our armpits here with them. I've seen them 20-30 in a pack on my place. We've trapped and shot them for years. In the last year we've killed around 70 or so. Last summer the USDA was shooting them out of helicopters. They keep my smoker running over time:)

Just spent the morning with Barefoot Bob riding around checking about 15 of his traps (he has 130 of them). There were 1 to 4 hogs in about 11 of them. And this is in an area he has heavily worked. He shipped 88 head to the processor today alone. He ships 1800 to 2000 head per year of live trapped hogs. They are all bound for Europe as Organic Pork!

Going out to shoota few later this afternoon.
