Gee you guys should see the prices of fuel here in N.Y. Diesel $3.76 @ Big truck stop, gas $3.36 @ Mobil , fuel oil $ 3.49 , that is as of today.Hey but don't forget $4.39 N.Y.S. state tax on one pagk of cancer sticks too.

Are all of you federal retirees? The Missus and I draw SC pensions that have not been affected. It is my understanding that the federal tax rates for 2011 are the same as 2010 and that the tax brackets and standard deductions have increased, albeit modestly. What gives?

I retired from the military in 06, it is a federal pension. I do not remember getting a notice in the mail about a tax rate re-adjustment.....my first indicator was my reduced January pension deposit.
As I stated before, my federal taxes doubled last year, this year more like 120% increase.

Required withholding and actual tax liability are different things. Most tax payers have paid less Federal Taxes over the past 2 years - same basic rates (Bush tax cut rates) but additional deductions in recovery bill and for 2011 in the tax rate extension.

It's all to do with the dollar being worth less because our government keeps printing more fine paper!
Each time the printing presses roll off another few billion dollars of fiat money, the dollar buys less.
