I spent the day with my dad and two of his buddies installing 3/4" solid hardwood flooring in my home office.. I got a great deal through my dad on Mohawk prefinished Natural 5" Hickory - the rest of the house was 3" unfinished.

I tore out the carpet/padding yesterday and had the felt down by the time they got here this morning.. It took way longer than I thought it would to trim/fit the flooring around the door frame.. I was a little disappointed in how many short pieces of flooring we had - but that just added more to the character

Enjoy

Brian

Very nice. I don't know I had seen Hickory finished like that. I usually think of it as handles and firewood! :D
Looks good. What size is the trim at the walls, quarter round?

My dad was able to get this for me at a great price - about $2 to $4 LESS a sq/ft than I could find locally.. The Mohawk has a built in Scotchguard finish as well - most marks (crayon, lipstick, markers, wax, etc) should only need a either a damp or dry towel to clean up..

We had a LOT of short pieces (as you can tell in the pic) but only had one piece with bad milling and one piece with a scratch on the finish.. Overall I wish we had more longer pieces, but I am still very pleased with the finished project..

the rest of our house is 3" hickory so we wanted something to compliment it.. As you saw in the pic, there is a HUGE variety in the look of hickory - Not a product for someone that likes a consistent look for sure..

The trim is quarter round hickory and I think it was 3/4"... Once again its great to have a retired father that could look for good deals and has time to sand/poly it for you.. he got about 60' of trim for about $30 - at lowes one stick of non-hickory was around $30 (finished hickory as $53/stick).. Dad also build the T at the threshold out of hickory as well..

thanks

Yeah , it's a little busy for me, I've never seen that type of floor before, looks like you did a good job on the install.
