The Ford F-250 and F-350 SRW are the same truck with different spring rates / blocks. There was a big jump in gvwr's in 2005 when they jumped to coils and D60's in the front and bigger brakes all around. Frame's heavier too, the the 250 and 350 are the same.
Put some bags or heavier springs on the 250 and make sure it has tires to match and you'll be fine.
While you are correct there is noting you can add to legally increase tow capacity or payload. To me the SRW 1 tons are the best thing going after driving a dually, hated it. They are a good middle of the road solution.
