So, today I started to install a chainsaw scabbard for my 12" saw. It did not turn out the way I wanted it to. But more on that later.

It got me going, and soon I had attached a holder for shovels, and a holder for my 32" saw. Angle aluminum and 1/4" bolts. Still working on the clips to keep the saw from flopping out. The holders for the shovels are nothing more than 2" PVC and 1/4" bolts, oversized washers. And I included a picture of a freebie trailer I got earlier this year. Had to grind down the ball receiver a bit but it fits and works well.

Back to the scabbard. It is a ripped design from this forum Cutting boards and 1" angle aluminum. but when I started to look for mounting spots, the saw seemed to be resting either on my head or on the saw engine case. The angle of the engine cover prevents the thing from sitting right. Also it seems to put a bit of torque on the bar itself but I am not sure if that is a deal or not. I really wanted to use the scabbard, but I think I will just mount the 12" on the hood as well. Have to move the fire extinguisher (thinking of just removing it all together but you never know).

Before I abandon the scabbard, happy to take on any suggestions.

I made something like that on my 425 on the rops. If I was not careful branches would pull the shovel out of the rack. Yours is better protected, just something to watch out for.

Carl,

I think I would have angled the shovel, etc down from front to back. As it looks now, a limb or vine could pull the shovel out.

A carry all box on top the ROPS would keep everything enclosed.

I thought of the pointing front, and yes, it will reduce the tree pulls (yes, that has happened already) but... but... I never need my shovel when the tractor is straight or turned to the right. Seems I am always blocking it with the front cab....

Regarding mounting tools on the sides of your tractor and traversing heavy brush...

If you point the tools forward, they will catch on something and snap off.
If you point the tools backward, they will catch on something and get pulled out without you noticing.
It's a no win situation mounting them on the sides.

One minor advantage I have from everyone else is the Dualies. they help a bit, pushing stuff down and keeping my distance from trees.

That's true. I just remember carrying fishing poles on my bicycle as a kid. Riding carrying it forward resulted in broken rods when they would catch in a fence or bush and then snap immediately. Riding carrying it backwards usually resulted in it getting yanked out of my hands if a stick would go into one of the line guides.
