Laptop Died... Fix? or Replace?

I got everything I needed from the old hard drive. I still can't bring myself to sell it, though. I had a lot of personal information on that laptop. Even deleted stuff isn't really deleted.

Probably too late now, since you already have a replacement machine.
You COULD just buy a replacement of the same make/model and swap your old hard drive into it. Probably anything close would do, though HP and Dell have a few "special" drivers, so you should at least stay within the same manufacturer and model "line".

That would work, but one of the reasons I wanted a new laptop was for a new operating system and such. Getting all the info off the old laptop was an easy task.

OK, if anyone else tries this thing and gets similar weird symptoms I can only suggest removing it before entering any uernames or passwords at sites requiring logins - for which you had firefox remembering your login credentials.

On my home system I run three different browsers. Firefox for general surfing and two other's for banking type of stuff. I can only think of a couple of websites that I let a browser keep the userid and password. Banking/Credit card userids and passwords are never saved by the browser.

Paranoid I am. :D

Later,
Dan

I've let a browser save my username, but not my password.

Little late for the OP, but I really like my ASUS laptop computer. I've had it a couple years now, Core2 Duo with 4GB memory. I run Autocad on this no problem. I just upgraded my Harddrive with one twice the size, was real easy. I kept my old toshiba, but after a couple years, all computers become antiques.

So far this one is working out alright. I can tell that it is a low end unit, though. It's worth at least what I paid for it, but I can tell how some extra dollars would have gotten me a better laptop. The battery rattles a bit. The fan is a little loud. The speakers are quiet. I'm still pleased with my purchase because of the price.

The computing power is fine. It's done everything I've asked of it with power to spare.

On a humorous note, my free fridge was actually a toner cartridge. My package was packed wrong. I called, and they are trying to work it out for me.

It might be a little challenging to keep your beer cold with a toner cartridge.

Or he could keep the toner cartridge in the fridge...

It's almost worth looking up what printers fit this toner cartridge and getting one. I'll bet the toner costs more than the printer.

I have been trying to convince myself that I "need" a color laser multi-function bells, whistles and fog horn included printer - all singing, all dancing, etc.

The one I'm looking at Samsung CLX-3185 is $399 most places, $299 at places where it isn't in stock (-:
Each toner cartridge is between $37 and $69, there are 3 color ones and one black.
I think there is a 3 pack for about $140 in one or two places.

As I said, still trying to convince myself...
ONE of my reasons for this is that I get next to no life out of bubble jet cartridges, they dry out from lack of use and I never know when I will be not printing for long periods, so have never tried any "lay up" procedures.
Supposedly laser printers don't suffer so much from lack of use.
