It's a lawsuit part. You lose a hand, they say not their fault, the blower came with a guard installed. My 3ph snowblower didn't come with one, and I don't want one. I would leave it off.

It's there to help prevent anyone from reaching into the chute and coming in contact with the impeller with their hands.

I'm sure manufacturers mean well when they install these safety devices, but just as importantly (maybe more) it serves to reduce their liability. I have a hard time disabling these (RIO, seat switch) or removing them for the same reasons, just in case some ":confused2:" doughnut head uses it in my absence.

Personally i would just bend the finger back!!.

It's an idiot guard to prevent people from sticking things down the chute to clear clogs and hurting themselves. Serves no useful purpose if you're not an idiot and don't plan on jamming your hand dow the chute while the pto is still engaged. Take it off and stick it on a shelf in case you ever sell it.

Most people that don't know this end up being nicknamed "Stub" in their later years. Their parents held these beliefs http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/safety/197902-children-farm-dangers.html thus their children never learned any better. Usually the "Stubs" in life share their experience that others will not repeat their experience. Engineers & lawyers keep this knowledge secret to preserve their own lifestyle.

I thought by now they would of piped up on how they did it as a kid and are still here....quote]

I guess I better go buy one of those chute pluggers, my snowthrower doesn't have one. Wouldn't want anyone to think I was STUPID.

You may have missed that double negative? If you don't have one and don't need one then you're far from stupid. ;) MikeD74t
