Off Road---Home Heating oil

It depends on your area. In CT right now HHO is 3000 ppm sulfur and off road diesel is ULSD, the same as on road diesel but with dye added. As of this summer HHO is going down to 500 ppm sulfur (LSD) and its supposed to go to ULSD some time in the future.

Where did you get this information? I am in CT and been using HHO for a while... I was always told it is dyed diesel.

Tuxis Ohr. The new tractor called for ULSD or LSD. When I called around I was told HHO is high sulfur and on or off road diesel are ULSD, they had no LSD. The delivery driver confirmed that off road diesel is from the same tanks as on road diesel but with dye added. A Google search turned up the CT regulations requiring HHO to lower sulfur content this year. Is there a CT supplier selling ULSD or LSD for HHO?

just don't get caught on the highway, running uncolored fuel in your Mercedes. . .

#2 heating oil is colored (red), not on-road diesel. IOW, you better NOT have colored fuel in your Mercedes.

I've heard that #2 is high sulfur compared to pump diesel also. I always use pump diesel, but isn't high sulfur good for motors? As such, heating fuel should be better for my tractor than pump diesel - although looking at the build up of spooge that my furnace creates, I don't know.

Very off topic....I haven't seen the word "spooge" used in more than 30 years and only in one industry. One of my favorite words BTW . Could it be that you own or owned a 2-stroke dirt bike sometime in your life?

On road diesel is non-colored, i.e. greenish. Off-road diesel is dyed red. Home heating oil is dyed purple. Kerosene at the pump is clear. I was told it would be a bad day if the fuel cops found the wrong color in your system. It is all about the taxes.

on a practical note, a couple of 5 gal cans of "road' diesel will last the average weekend warrior more hours than we put on our CUTs in a year. Plus, the savings by using HHO won't buy a case of beer. . .

Not sure where you got this but its mandadted that all off road fuel is dyed with Solvent Red 26. this applies to offroad diesel, and HHO and any other high sulphur fuel (not refined K1). Aviation fuel is also dyed albeit a different color to make sure the fuel is never mixed up.

There should be no purple. This is from the EPA mandate and not subject to change by region.
