I Know go read this go read that and i have!
I will be changing trans oil this spring at my 50 hr service and i think i have narrowed down to Mobil Hydraul Extra grade? or Amsoil synthetic tractor/hydraulic transmission oil (ATH) SAE 5W-30.
I think these are very good oil and I believe worth the cost. I will probaly run longer change intervals depending on what i see at filter changes.
I'm Leaning to Mobil as i have decided on Mobil Delvac1 5W 40 motor oil.
Comments?

Which tractor/transmission, etc.?
Don't necessarily need to change the fluid- just the filters and top off with same type of fluid already in the tractor. That's what my dealer does, and has been doing for YEARS. If there is a problem with the trans fluid then it might have to be changed- unlikely at 50 hr svc.

If you saw what comes out of the trans fluid in the first 50 hour break in I think you may change your mind.
I know I wouldn't want that stuff floating around in the fluid for 250 hours!
But to each is your own. You money, your investment!

I know I am not taking a chance, ALL fluids that are recommended to be changed at 50 hrs will be done on my machine;).

I hear what you're saying Wallace; and I trust my selling dealer to do it right- he's changing the filters and topping off the trans fluid- as he's been doing at his dealership for 30+ years without any problems. And the filter is what will catch whatever is left over in the fluid after the first 50 hours.

There is evidence to support changing just the oil filter and topping off the oil on cars without ever having to actually change the oil completely too. I'm not suggesting doing it- but I guess some people have done it without problems.

Sorry guys still trying to get all this figured out.
Anyhow 2010 Kioti CK 30 HST
I have been told to just change the filter but not for the first service I had a Kubota BX 2200 and when i did the first oil Change I could not believe what came out thank god for the magnetic oil plug.

In my 2005 CK30hst, I use the Shell Donax TD that is comparable to the Mobilefluid 424. They are a 10w-30 hydro fluid. The Amsoil synthetic hydro fluid, 5w-30, would be a good choice, especially in cold Winter temps, but it's twice the money. I guess the Amsoil recommended extended change intervals might pay in the long run if you get twice the life from the oil but I like seeing the old coming out and the new oil going in. I'm not familiar with the Mobile extra grade. As mentioned, wait till you see what's on the hydro's magnetic drain plugs and what comes running out the drain holes. The hydro oil will even have that nice pearly look to it from all the parts breaking in. I think you'll feel satisfaction from the drain and refill. I have been using Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic in the engine. Very nice for the cold Winter start-ups. The Delvac would be a good choice too. As by the manual, engine oil and filter at 50 then 100 hour intervals. Hydro oil and filters at 50 hours, 200 hour filters only, then hyro oil and filters at 400 hours. I might be overdoing it a little but I like my toys.

I agree, filters & oil is cheap insurance in the long run. I too am going by the recommended intrevals in the owner's manual.

Isn't that what the filters are for, to prevent that "stuff" from floating around? I doubt the lubricant qualities of the HST oil are shot by 50 hours and always assumed that the reason for the change was just to get out the fine metal particles. I know there was metallic crud on the magnetic drain plug but that is exactly where it is supposed to be.

I did change mine at 50 hours but do wonder why we do this for tractor transmissions but not for auto transmissions. If I am not mistaken I believe Kubota now recommends just change of HST filter at 50hrs and no fluid change until 200 or so hours.

My point EXACTLY! I just had my dealer's mechanics change both HST filters and I took a close look at the fluid that came out of the filters and it was nearly perfectly clean- like new at 93 hours, no prior service of any kind on the tranny.
I also had them change the fuel filter; I had already done the 50 hr svc. on the oil and filter. That I used the Amsoil diesel oil for; which I also used with my earlier DK-35SE /HST.
The mechanics said they NEVER change the tranny oil at 50 hr service on HST's, and usually do it around 200-250 hours. SOMETIMES they do change the trans fluid on Shuttle Shifters due to those who don't come to a complete stop between forward and reverse sometimes causing premature fluid contamination. They did say that unless something fell in the fill hole with the cap/plug removed the chances of contaminating an HST were virtually unheard of- though occasionally some condensation can build up in the flexible hydraulic lines going to equipment like a backhoe through normal operation of the tractor and its equipment.

As to cars- my Toyota Forerunner does NOT have a transmission dipstick, and there is, ( I believe) no change interval- so its LIFEtime tranny fluid.
Some cars now don't even have OIL dipsticks!! The computer tells you when to drive to your dealer for the change of oil and filter.

So it is my personal opinion that HST tranny fluid change does NOT need to be done at 50 hours UNLESS there is visible contamination- milky colored fluid, or evidence of high levels of metal on the plug; which as stated above, and backed by my dealer's mechanics, is highly unlikely on an HST at 50 hours.
