2210 Rear or front snowblower?

I had to join the front mount group, I did a search, and, I found a JD 59, from a JD 790, sitting on JD dealer's lot in Michigan, hard to believe that it had been there since last November, but it was mis-labeled as a 2575, Unless that is how they number them in the UK? It took 2 days shipped from MI to VA,

So, anyway, I have my almost new, rear 3PH, 60" Meteor for sale, in the classifieds, if anybody is interested, any reasonable offers considered, including meeting halfway, etc.,

I have a rear snowblower and it works just fine. I picked it up second hand and as there are lots of these around, the price was good.

If I had a bucket of money lying around, I would buy the front blower and keep my landscape blade on the back........

No such luck tho, so its a second hand rear blower and my bucket on the front. Driving backwards is a pain, I will admit, but the pain is less that the cost of a front blower.

At the dealer the front blower was $4500 and the rear one was $2300, and my used one was half that again....... in the end its your money....

I too opted for a front mount. While looking at john deere 59" I stumbled upon an Erskine. Not cheap, some initial assembly required but I can switch from my snow blower to loader in about 5 minutes. Mine is an older 770 so the entire bucket& boom arms come off. The Erskine is a rear PTO driven front blower and a rugged piece of equipment. I really like the idea of going foward, and to me it's worth the price as I don't replace equipment often.

I was talking to my dealer about a front-mount for my 2320 for next season and he told me Deere may have a hydraulic front-mount blower next fall -- attaches to the FEL arms. Don't know more, i.e., if it requires its own SCV, etc. Lose the bucket but keep the rear blade and might be faster to mount and dismount than mechanical drive. I believe hydraulic front-end blowers have been around for a while for big equipment.

They offer that now for the BIG tractors, but it cost's close to 10K for the whole setup. I don't think you'll see it for the small tractors.

Is anyone using a rear 3 point snowblower on a 2210? Wondering about the snowthrowing performance of a rear blower vs front? I have been trying to decide to buy a front 2 stage which would require a hassle to change to front loader, or a rear 3 point blower; I have seen Buhler units that are 50 inches but weigh in excess of 400 lbs and wonder if the 3 point can lift that much in addition to the 100lb? quick hitch?? Plus some units that require a MINIMUM of 16 pto hp, is it a struggle for the 2210 ? if I recall correctly has 16 pto hp??

I am nearing the end of my first winter using a rear PTO blower. My driveway is 500' long and flat. Here are some humble opinions at this point:

I have no gripes about turning 1/2 around and driving in reverse to blow snow. However, if I had to back downhill, I don't think I'd be as content.

Last week, we had a lot of "wintery mix" -- snow, rain, and more snow & rain. The blower can't force this wet, heavy mush through the chute. I cleared the driveway with the FEL which, with the blower on the rear, I've left mounted on the tractor. Very convenient.

For me, the choice actually came down to the dollar difference between front and rear snowblowers. I'm sure that if I had gotten the front mount, I'd be perfectly happy with that as well. Sometimes the hardest choices are when neither choice is wrong.

I have the SB1154 on my 2305 and it does really well. I think I could have gone to the 60 inch but I like the one I have. Having the bucket on the front and the snow blower on the rear works well for me. Looking backwards to use the snow blower is not a problem but I do have a tendency to hit the bucket lever with my knee causing it to slowly curl open.

Hi

I have a rear mount blower on my 2305 Deere, its actually a 48" Buhler Farm King Blower, it works great but if you get that heavy wet S%!T thats slushy it will plug up the blower. I wish my 2305 had a loader.
I like the rear mount blower as its easy to hook up and take off the 3 point hitch when changing seasons. No crawling underneath to disconnect the drive shaft for the mid-mount PTO that is used if the blowers on the front. Maybe because I am young, but I don't have any problems with looking backwards while blowing snow, now granted if I had several 1500 foot + driveways, I would opt for a front mounted blower.

I actually had a front mount blower on an Agco gas garden tractor that worked well, but I really like the manuerablity of the blower on the back.
