If your instruments work sometimes and other times not at all, don't waste your time looking at fuses. If it were a fuse, they would never work.

That would be true if a fuse were blown but he has an intermittent problem. Those are generally from bad contacts and corrosion. It's a lot easier to give the fuses a quick look given their location than tear right into the dash.

...and if it were a dirty fuse, everything fed power from that fuse would be intermittent. Sigh. . . I have a schematic. Trust me. I know what I'm talking about.

Well, fuses are all good but the spades on the fuses are pretty ugly. For that matter, the wiring harness plugs behind the air intake screen are all in some state of decomposing, like UV damage, some have it some dont. I tried pulling them and spraying contact cleaner, but no action on the gauges yet, I will dive in deeper when I get the mower problem fixed.

Then, sigh, tell us what the schematic says about that circuit so he can work his way through the circuit to find his problem, he said he doesn't have one. I gave a general trouble shooting path not knowing the specifics of how a particular model was wired. It will get you there, admittedly it's not as nice as if I had a schematic.

Are the senders ground, can he eliminate that side of the circuit? If the senders aren't ground are their grounds daisy chained?

So what else feeds off the switch position that powers the gauges? Are they daisy chained on the same wire, before or after the gauges, or is it a different wire?

What wire colors should he trace fuse block to switch to gauges?

Please remove the fuse from your "knee-jerk reaction slot" and swap it with the "pay attention and read the thread slot." I've responded to you for the last time. It's hopeless.

Well, I think tomorrow I can get on the intermittent problem-thanks for the suggestions, does anyone have a electrical schematic on pdf that can be emailed? that would be great. I will try cleaning up all contacts first, but it would be nice to know which ones to focus on. thanks again, I got the mower on this afternoon and it is a mowing machine! I think it will enjoy having it.

You should read all the posts on this forum about the G1800s just for your own information.;) If you had done that, you would have found that I posted the schematic here.

Well, my intermittent problems have reared ugly head again, after a great afternoon of g1800 mowing, this morning I could not get the starter to engage, dash lights on but not a sign of life from starter. I jumped seat switch, checked lever positions, nothing. I think I am going to go straight to the pushbutton switch to just jump power straight to starter, and i did see the schematic to do this. Does anyone know what the rapid clicking is when the key is turned on, and is it normal?

If you hear the click only when you go to the "Start" position, it's probably the starter solenoid. If it's when you just go to the "On" position, it could be the fuel pump behind the left rear wheel or even intermittent contact making the kill solenoid cycle on/off. You might listen to the Combination Box on the left side of the engine to see if it is the source also. The most common source of clicking is when the battery is low or has dirty terminals and you move the key switch to "Start." It is very common for starter solenoid to chatter that way.

Thanks for the info, the clicking is with key in on position, not that loud but sounded like an old Geiger counter, sort of, seems to stop when engine is running (it's loud enough I think I could still hear it.)
I will check the combination box, and wonder if a bad connection elsewhere could make it behave that way. I take it nothing On the tractor is supposed to be ticking that way?
