Stump Grinder

I think I've figured it out. The first cuts were in a low traffic area, while the second set were right across the entrance to the parking lot. I suspect that the paving contractor laid the asphalt a bit thicker and compacted it more. It was just harder stuff. It felt kinda like riding a jackhammer.

J_J, now that I'm done with the asphalt cutting abuse, I will sharpen those teeth with a green wheel.

Bob,

Dress up the contour of the face, round square or whatever. The back side of the tooth needs to be tapered from the face edge to the back.

This is a round carbide tooth, but notice the taper from the face to the back.

Thanks JJ.

I have done maybe 20 stumps with my used stump grinder. Maybe i am too hard on it because it never takes me close to an hour; 15 - 20 minutes for ~ 28" stump. The FEL is shaking sometimes when i take too big of a bite. Rotted go the easiest and i do not count those. Green grind pretty well. 6 month old stumps are harder for me to do. My blade is reversed and the welded teeth.

Ken

Ken,
I have the older welded tooth grinder also. I would like to reverse the wheel but I'm a little concerned because it uses chamfered lug bolts and the holes are chamfered. Were yours the same, and if so did you change to regular bolts when you flipped the wheel? Thanks.

I just reused the chamfered lug bolts. I do not remember if the holes were chamfered or not.

Be very careful grinding the cutter teeth with the green wheel. Be sure to wear a mask. Cannot remember if it is the carbide or the green wheel, or the combination of both that causes the health issues.

Thanks. I ordered mine and will wear a mask.

Thanks for the reminder. I had heard that, but I probably wouldn't have remembered.

Is that the same for the Pink wheels you use on chainsaws? Man, I am a dead man given how much bad stuff I have inhaled.
