For starters, it is 4wd or 2wd.

If 2wd, it really wont matter as long as they fit.

If 4wd, the front and rear have to be specific sizes son you dont bind the 4wd.

Tractordata shows that the L4200 in 4wd configuration used 8.3 x 16 ags in the front and 14.9x24 ags in the rear.

That is the same sized tire currently used on the L4400.

The L4400 R4 option is 10-16.5 in the front and 17.5L-24 in the rear.

So it is a safe bet to say that they have the same ratio of rolling radius as your current ags. So That would probabally be the size I'd go with. If you have the owners manual, it should list this as well.

But keep in mind, new R4's and rims aint going to be cheap. probabally $1500-$2000 by the time you are done. So I have to ask why you are wanting to switch. On a tractor that sized, I can imagine you are using it for lawn/yard work. And the R4's plug up easy and don't have near the traction as the ags.

The tractor is 4x4 and the reason for the r4s is I use the tractor to maintain a motocross track and the wider r4s work great for packing in the jumps we make. I would only need the r4s on the front if that is possible that is what would work best for me.

You need to keep the same circumference ratio between the front and rear tires.
IF you could find R-4 front tires (and wheels, BTW) that maintain that ratio, it could work...but only due to the R-4's not being as grippy as the R-1's on the rear as you'd need more slippage up front.

However, I don't think mixing tire types on a 4WD tractor is a good idea. It could result in premature wear on the drive train components and expensive repairs.

Just out of curiousity, why do you think you'd just need R-4's on the front? Although they may be a bit wider then the R-1's (on the front), they're not that much wider.
Maybe a roller of some sort (towed behind the tractor, or even rigged to the front since it seems you want to compact the ramps for jumps) would be better to compact the soil.
