Looking at buying a utility tractor to move round bails around as well as other misc. chores. Does anyone have experience with JD 6215. Also any comments on a Koyker 345 loader would be helpful.

I bought a 6415. I was looking for a 5425 or 5075M, but they were more $$$ than the 6415 I ended up buying. I would have bought a 6215, but did not find one. Since I do not need the extra HP of the 6415. The 15 series was an economy series compared to the 6X20 series. Not as much hydraulic capacity, fewer lights, no steps on the right hand side, probably more I am forgetting (something about the 3pt hitch). Same engine, trans, axles

It should have more than enough size (weight) to handle round bales. It's much bigger than the 5425 or 5075M.

What trans? I got power quad and LHR.

What hydraulic options does it have? I woud want power beyond with the joystick and mid mount valve for the loader. Real pricey to add later.

Mine came with a JD 640SL loader. I think past models are 620, 640 & 640SL. Current are 563, 563SL, 673 & 673SL. I would stay with Deere, but that's just me. My only down side is the bucket hookup is different than the JD 245 of my old tractor. I will have to modify my grapple and forks before I can use them. Have compared specs to JD loaders?

I even found a 3rd function valve for mine on Ebay for cheap.

Thanks Zebrafive for such a thorough response. Did you buy your new or used? I'm looking at used 6215 with 1300 hours but has a Koyker Loader.

I bought used. 2006 Model. Twice the hours. Before I bought I had my local JD dealer run the serial number. This gave me the build sheet for the tractor, and all warranty work that was done on the tractor. I told the local dealer the name the selling dealer said was the first and only owner. They said they do not disclose that info for privacy reasons, but since I gave it to them they confirmed it. Selling dealer said they sold the tractor new and it was traded for a cab tractor. They gave me his phone # and I called him and talked to him about it. He told me the hours were correct and the only reason he got rid of it was they made him a deal on the cab tractor he could not refuse and he could not afford to keep both. He even told me what he was allowed for it in trade.

I had earlier found a 6215, but it sold before I could make a deal on it.
Before that there was a 6215 on Ebay. Turned out it was about 50 miles from my BIL. He checked it out. I was high bidder, but did not meet reserve. They tried twice on ebay and I won, but did not meet reserve each time. It had less hours and a non self leveling loader. It also did not have the power quad trans. I would have been happy with either 6215. The second had either 16.9 30 or 18.4-30 rear tires (can't remember which) the ebay tractor had 18.4-34 rear tires as does my 6415. Bigger than I wanted.

I have bought a brand new JD 6715 6 Cylinder with a 6.8Litre engine. For around 70,000. This tractor pulls real hard. Great power to weight distribution. I have 8 Front weights on this and a 2.5 Metre tiller behind this. This tractor is great to run on the road. Real smooth with this combination. Top speed of 20MPH. Equipped with the powerquad transmission. I would of expected more in this tractor like the 24 speed powerquad transmission on this tractor. Sometimes i wish it was a bit better on the interior. But i am very happy with this tractor, the only problem I had was a coolant leak in the cab. Was going to purchase a bigger tractor like the 7020 series but kept with this tractor.

Just purchased a 2006 JD 6215, MFWD, ROPS with canopy, JD 640SL loader. Did a lot of looking and research, and it looks to be a great value $$$ for horsepower. I own 3 other tractors, 2 JD's and 1 Kubota, but the 6215 will be the largest horse power. Ritchie Specs list the gross hp at 90, PTO at 72.

I needed to pull a HD batwing mower, and this should do the trick. It's true the XX15 series is a stripped down version compared to the XX20 series, but todays stripped down tractors are yesterdays premium. This tractor has the power reverser, seat that adjusts 5 ways, fold down arm rests, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, all controls on left hand consol. I spent my early years on a JD 3020, 10-12 hour days in a hay field, so I think I can handle the stripped down 6215 just fine.

Cons: Too big for bumper pull trailers, need 10,000 GVW trailer or larger, to move.

What size tires did you get? Power Quad? I agree a great deal for the dollars. I bought mine for less than the 5425s & 5525s I was looking at.

Your right about the size, bigger than I am used to, I'll bet with the loader it goes more than 10,000lbs. I'd like to get mine weighted some time. I have a 14,000 GWR trailer that I'd be afraid to haul it on.

My 6215 has 18.4 30's on the rear, and 12.4 24's on the front, (I think). I'm at work now and doing this from memory. Maybe 13.6 24's on the front. Yes, with the loader, you are probably right, pushing over 10,000 lbs. Also, I re-read my earlier post, the controls are all on the right hand consol, the power reverser is on the left.

I checked on more weight, looks like cast iron is running around $1 per pound. May put water in the rear tires, just not sure yet. Any thoughts?

I have the 640 SL loader, its manual says for a 6420 MFWD ballast 700KG/1543LBs total for the rear wheels. No way to get this much weight without liquid in the tires. In addition, 850KG/1874LBs 3pt ballast required.
