Refinishing brake dust shields

Apologize if this forum is the wrong place to post this query but my GMC IS my tow vehicle. It has a set of 10 year old Kleen Wheels brake dust shields, and the flat black paint is almost flaked off the aluminum shields. Would anyone have a certain recommendation as to the best spray paint to use for refinishing them? I was wondering if the best type would be the type sold for refinishing gas BBQ grills (heat resistant). Thanks.

I would do as you said and use either a BBQ or Wood Stove paint or they also make paint specifically for painting brake parts such as calipers. You can get the first at any hardware store and the brake paint at any auto parts store.

As with anything, its all about the prep.

Thank you...I like your suggestion about the brake paint....never would have thought of that. Great idea.

I've always had good luck useing a Zinc Chromate primer on the aluminum
first so the paint has something to stick to!!:thumbsup:

Just FYI, my GMC has had the brake dust shields installed since it was new and the OEM 8-lug factory aluminum rims still look like new, despite going thru Michigan winters.. I personally think they are well worth the cost because they keep corrosive brake dust off the rims. My '04 Lesabre has the factory chrome plated Celebration Edition wheels and because the clearance to the calipers is so tight I cannot fit dust shields, the rims get so filthy I need to scrub them weekly to keep the brake dust off.

Seems most around here are going for the blakout look they never clean
the wheels!!
