TN60a exhaust into air filter?

Mornin' all,

I'm the proud new owner of a '05 TN60a and as I was going through my first service on it yesterday I was surprised to see a line routed into the cap of the air filter housing. I assumed it was just the crankcase vent, but as I followed the line it went to the exhaust! Of course, my initial thought is that I have to plug it, but I thought I'd ask the question here first: What's the point of that set up???

It's an OEM installation.Why would you think it wasn't supposed to be there? Don't plug it. It's there for a reason.

I'm not sure but I believe it uses a small ammount of exhaust to remove dust out of the airfilter housing.

Thanks Jerry! Yes, it's definitely factory, and to be honest my first reaction was "how the heck did I get a California model tractor in Missouri?!" Anyway, this tractor is a replacement for a 2wd TN55, which didn't have the same plumbing. Everything else has been so similar between the two I was just surprised the air cleaner wasn't the same, too.

That makes total sense about skimming dust and sending it out the exhaust. I'll just leave it be so it can do it's job!

Aspiration is the term. Fairly common in heavy duty offroad equipment. The Venturi principle creates flow from the dirty side of the air filter out the exhaust stack.
