I think we can use the support brackets that normally
hold the gas tank support.

One other thought - even though its not ready to run, you might want to put a 30" mower on it just to check the balance front to back. Depending on what you find you'll have time to work on it since you are still sort of in the design phase.

Hi! You make always very good job! For my Gravely diesel. I make a special frame for put battery and fix handlebars. The ends are 4.5 in. more high and I add a tube ( In middle) over for renforcement. I make one offset 4.5 in on one rod shifter for muffler. The Gravely diesel with reduction wheels make about 500 lbs. Very powerful tractor. I add picts . Good luck! Oldmech

Hi Oldmech
You made a good repower.
We have talked a lot about repower of the L for a long time.
I plan to get back to the L tomorrow .:D
I like your reinforcement of the Handle bars.
I plan to split a 1 pipe for reinforcement
I have decided to put bolts through the handle bars.
Also plan to put a rod between them
I'll use a solid round and tap the ends
I repowered a C10 with the Gear and it runs our Good.
I set the gov where the engine top speed is 2600 Rpm.
So I got everything done on the adapter end on the LI.
Now got to set up the handle bars and the pto lever.
I have two L8 trans with blown engines
The L8 with out good engines are easy to come by now.
Thanks Bruce g

Well I guess I am human
I made a mistake on the Thickness of the L model and C8 instead of 2.130
They are 1.700 So I get out of 1 piece of material.
It worked out for the good.
Also here are some pictures of my first a temp at repowering a model L
The old tractor needs a lot work but I though I would see what people Though about my set up on the handle bars and adapter plate.

I though it would be a ease job just clean up the old tractor inside and out
When I checked the inside and found out it was a 8 lead instead a 6 lead.:(
I changed completely I had a old LI there so cleaned it out in and out .
Also drilled for a dipstick while I had it apart
So that will be the black LI tractor with a black 13 Hp Honda on it.
almost done?
Then we will see if it runs out OK.

I have to replace the axle seals on mine this Spring. I have never done this before so I can learn from your experience - assuming yours leaks at the axle also. Keep us posted!

Hi One
I changed out the seals in my Repowered LI
It is not a easy job unless your hubs are loose.
The hubs can be a pain.
I used a 3 legged car wheel puller put 3 bolts with Large washer
thru the hubs at the slots.
I dogged it down petty tight
Held a hammer under the hub under the taper.
and smacked it hard on both sides
tightened a little more and smacked the end of the puller.
it popped loose.
I left nut loose but not off enough to hit the end of the puller.
I had about 1/8 of play.
The reason for that is when they do pop they can jump across the room.
So now all i have to do is take the 4 bolts out.
Best drain oil first.
the cap can be tight so you have to wake it up a little.
The seals are in the cap.
There about 3 different seals styles and different OD sizes.
I had a set of seals for a C10 but the LI is different then the C10.
I went to Applied industrial but they did not have a seal like was in it.
But they had two seals the right ID and OD. so I got them and put them in.
I used Blue glue (RTV) on the out side and grease on the inside .
Both seals are for 1.00 shafts but the OD is different.
If the hubs are loose and the cap is not tight it would be easy.
BTW here some pictures of my First L Repower ready for work.
I got a lot work to get a mowing deck ready.

Thanks Bruce g

Silver and black paint to match the new motor. Some Gravely purists would be saying things, but I guess they'd gripe about the new motor, too.

Hey real nice looking L you have there Bruce,,, great job man!

   / Engine ideas #355
I like the color scheme too. Very clean job! I like the bolt used to engage the PTO. That's what I have on my tractor. In my view the remote PTO engagement system that came on the Ls is the weakest part of the design. I feel like Gravely could have done better on this. Everything else on the tractor is bullet proof. Cant wait to see your machine in action.

Thanks guys
I don't have a video camera .
This machine is going to mow with a 30 clam shell deck.
around a trailer park.
We plan to test it out good.
The next time I take pictures will probably be mowing grass.
Thanks Bruce g

After not seeing any Gravely's for a while, I just missed an L8 that was listed for $80.00. :( I had visions of an engine conversion for it.

You know if you plan to repower the old L s all you use is really the transmission and the handle bars
A Kohler adapter plate for 10-16 hp
There are a lot of 8 speeds with out engines or don't run.
The one I just did had dropped a rod.
Another thing is to watch for spray washers with the pumps bad or frozen up over the winter
But the engines are still good.

About what should I offer for an L8 with 30" brush cutter that needs tires and has a bad cylinder? I would only be interested in using it as a repower candidate...
