A reverse rotation tiller that priced more COMPETITIVELY with standard rotation tillers... Cannot tell me it cost around a grand more to change position of the pinion in the gear box, a very minor modification.
Another item is the power rake or 'harley rake' basically a naked tiller... but 8 times as much in average price in like sizes when compared.... Thats not right
Figger out how to make simple mods or simple implements as mentioned above without having the obvious manufacturing greed that goes on.
For an example, king kutter tillers have become very well known and respected. Good product at a good price, its that simple.
With Ya on both of those.
The tiller could be SO SIMPLE to convert forward/reverse rotation.
Just a diff gear box on top that can be quickly switched from driving on the input side (closest to the tractor) to driving from the back.
Same bevel gear on the same shaft, just facing the other way.
Outboard and I/O motors have both gears, for reverse you just slide one out of engagement and the other one in.
You COULD have two gears in there and a shift lever, THAT would give your product distinction in the marketplace (-:
It would be handy for unwrapping 50 yards of fence wire if/when that ever happens (so would a neutral).
Boat final drives... probably not built to take the shock loads of tilling, but their suppliers would be a good place to go pick brains for component proposals.
I'm not (yet) sure about tines, I think they normally trail the direction of rotation, so you would probably have to take them off and flip them around.... in a way that I can only describe right now with hand and wrist motions.
Anyway, common parts with slightly different assembly instructions could give you two products from one design - economy of scale, etc.
OK, now I'm sure. Unbolt all 56 or so of 'em and turn them the other way,
e.g. coming off the 12 o'clock position of the rotor towards 10 instead of towards 2.
Probably mount them on the other side of the same flange too.
LOTS of common components from this thing to the Harley/Woods/LandPride alternative power rake - I think I suggested that in an earlier post.
A King Kutter priced landscape rake would eat a hole in my Harley rake investment )-;
BREAKTHROUGH:
I think I found a hole in the Harley patents - perhaps big enough a hole to drive a whole(pun) new product through (-:
