Ok, a couple of ideas. shoot me your thoughts.

1. large lawn roller 48"+ that doesnt cost $1k
2. large dethatcher 48"+
3. heavy duty lawn cart 3' x 5'?
4. Arena Groomers 5' + 3pt and pull type?
5. Ballast box w/ built in tool box.
6. i like the idea about a sprayer "kit"

Just want to keep this moving...

I was just going to suggest a large 3-point dethatcher...

A reverse rotation tiller that priced more COMPETITIVELY with standard rotation tillers... Cannot tell me it cost around a grand more to change position of the pinion in the gear box, a very minor modification.

Another item is the power rake or 'harley rake' basically a naked tiller... but 8 times as much in average price in like sizes when compared.... Thats not right

Figger out how to make simple mods or simple implements as mentioned above without having the obvious manufacturing greed that goes on.

For an example, king kutter tillers have become very well known and respected. Good product at a good price, its that simple.

With Ya on both of those.
The tiller could be SO SIMPLE to convert forward/reverse rotation.
Just a diff gear box on top that can be quickly switched from driving on the input side (closest to the tractor) to driving from the back.
Same bevel gear on the same shaft, just facing the other way.
Outboard and I/O motors have both gears, for reverse you just slide one out of engagement and the other one in.
You COULD have two gears in there and a shift lever, THAT would give your product distinction in the marketplace (-:
It would be handy for unwrapping 50 yards of fence wire if/when that ever happens (so would a neutral).
Boat final drives... probably not built to take the shock loads of tilling, but their suppliers would be a good place to go pick brains for component proposals.

I'm not (yet) sure about tines, I think they normally trail the direction of rotation, so you would probably have to take them off and flip them around.... in a way that I can only describe right now with hand and wrist motions.
Anyway, common parts with slightly different assembly instructions could give you two products from one design - economy of scale, etc.

OK, now I'm sure. Unbolt all 56 or so of 'em and turn them the other way,
e.g. coming off the 12 o'clock position of the rotor towards 10 instead of towards 2.
Probably mount them on the other side of the same flange too.
LOTS of common components from this thing to the Harley/Woods/LandPride alternative power rake - I think I suggested that in an earlier post.
A King Kutter priced landscape rake would eat a hole in my Harley rake investment )-;

BREAKTHROUGH:

I think I found a hole in the Harley patents - perhaps big enough a hole to drive a whole(pun) new product through (-:

We may be talking about two different products and/or two different tasks here.

Arena "quick wipe over between event classes" is usually done with a chain harrow or a landscape rake.
It is often done at lunch break.
It doesn't go deep, it doesn't do anything for compaction, it is just a rake over of the surface's top dressing.

GROOMING goes somewhat deeper. It is aimed at loosening up compaction; the outside track right against the wall, the (egg shaped) 20 meter circle at B, (-: etc.
It is also aimed at returning footing from the outside edges, so groomers HAVE TO get out to the wall.
BTW, read the ads on circular spinning groomers, these describe the edge recovery quite well.

When events are in progress the "quick drag over" is under time constraints, not just "per ring", there are usually several others to drag with the same tractor.
5ft vs 8ft IMO is the difference between useless and JUST ABOUT quick enough.

The grooming takes somewhat longer anyway and at a lot of barns it is a mid week quiet time task, even so WIDTH helps to maintain & restore FLAT, as well as reducing the time to completion.

There ARE some compact tractors that are only 60 inches wide, some JDs, though I don't recall the model numbers.
They are kinda handy in center aisle barns if you like to tow a similarly narrow dump trailer (or manure spreader ?, maybe not) through when cleaning stalls.

I doubt the wisdom of designing ONLY to BARELY cover the tracks of unusually narrow tractors.
====================================================

Here's a design puzzle for someone/anyone;
A circular spinning groomer that is adjustable between 5ft and 8 or 9 ft.
I am thinking "camera iris" (-:

Is this thread dead?
Well, I'm bringing it back to life because there is something else I would like to see built for small tractors at a reasonable price.

Offset disk harrow similar to this

ROL THREE-POINT OFFSET DISK

I have an application where a normal tandem disk is not the best choice.

I want a low speed transmission like a Howard for my 8N so I can use a tiller.

I want a small FEL that fits my 8N and doesn't look like a jungle gym.
I want an option to beef up the front end of the tractor to support a FEL.
I want a power steering option that doesn't cost more than the tractor.
Since it is an 8N, I'd be happy with a 3ft wide bucket for the FEL.
Just something I can load sand/gravel/mulch/topsoil into a trailer.

I want a subsoiler that will go to 24 inches deep and convert to a potato plow.

I'm sure I'll think of much more. I think I just need a bigger tractor.

You want to turn your 8N into a Kubota?

allen, what would be the main benefit of this as opposed to the traditional compact designs?

I plow my turnrows and since it's a set width, single pass sort of thing, a conventional tandem 3pt disk will begin to mound up in the middle as the rear set of disks pull the dirt to the center. It gets worse each time I plow to the point that I finally have to back drag and level it out before I plow.
Yes I understand that the front disks push the dirt out and it would seem reasonable that the front and rear disk would offset one another. That just hasn't been my experience.
Also, an offset like I pictured is generally a more aggressive disk. Most of the "real" ;) farmers around here use an offset for keeping the ends of the field clean.

A dump cart that is built heavy enough to add a hydraulic cylinder and make into a hydro dump cart, but doesn't cost an arm and a leg

Have you checked out CountryMfg???

This seems like a good concept, but im unsure about the design. they are listing the weight of the "1 ton" as 220lbs before wood and the "2 ton" at 500 lbs. i personally would be concerned that there is not enough steel in these designs.

but, for a light weight, economy, trailer these seem like a great solution.

just my opinion, but normally i like to see some "overkill" built in.
