Did you follow the manual's maintenance instructions for greasing? Were those U-Joints illustrated in the manual as grease points?
Those are rhetorical questions (I've been following this thread), but I'm curious about Deere's responses.
Yeah Roy, this has me upset and I do not even have the problem...........YET!

But I have the feeling they are still going to tell me this is all my fault. But we'll see......word of mouth flies fast.

Again, thanks for all the great feedback and support on this guys. :)

The dealer will go with the regional manager's decision...then you need to kick it upstairs.

As I understood your U-joints did not have zerks (grease fittings). Is that correct? If so, I would ask why some tractors have them and yours did not, therefore it is not a maintenance issue.

Just looking at the original pictures, it's pretty easy to see that the universal joint had been broken and thrashing around for some time. Don't see how Deere is responsible for this at all.

Please define "some time"? The noise and vibration was only evident for about 15 - 20 seconds before I was able to pull the tractor to the side and shut her down.

I am very **** about the care of everything I own....I would not have driven around with something broken and trashing around underneath my tractor...doesn't sound very bright.

The wear marks on this yoke indicate that the universal joint was broken for a long time. These parts are all forged steel and it takes quite a bit of abuse to create this much damage. The joint finally failed completely, got into a bind and snapped off the pinion.

Ok, So it broke at 700 hours. How long do you think "some time" is? Probably before the warranty ran out. This is not necessarily a warranty issue as much as it is a bad design issue. I see no way this issue could have been avoided by the end user.

I don't want to come off as condescending, but this is a result of lack of maintenance and inspection. The dealer will take one look at the parts and say the same thing. Universal joints are regular inspection and maintenance items, greasable or not.

I agree to a certain extent but where in the owners manual does it say that? Or is this assumed and probably by most. Not to mention less than 700 hours. I could be considered a maintenance fanatic and I did not know the U-joint was even there, maybe I'm wrong in my thinking.
