My take on Terex. I have a PT100F bought new last spring. The machine works great when it does work however there have been a few problems right from the factory. ASV's version of the Fecon mulching head, the ASV HD 74, is the one I got with the machine and it has been in the shop twice for major repairs. Approximate hours on it right at this minute are 20 more than the machine. About 150hrs. According to the dealers mechanic, from what he saw the first time tearing it down, the main drum was installed from the factory without the proper shims and the ones installed were installed wrong. I caught the problem before there was any major damage (appr.90hrs) and the dealer repaired it. I cut with it for approximately 30 minutes and the head seized up solid. Back to the shop, rip apart and replace bearings, belt and a few other parts. Down time approximately 4 weeks and almost no warranty left on the head. Right out of the dealers yard this machine wouldn't start unless you were sitting in the cab, belt buckled up and the door closed. I questioned this and was told it was normal. This is not true but my source should know what he's selling. I started having problems starting the machine and couldn't figure it out. Sometimes it fired up no problem, other times you had to hold your tongue right. I pushed snow for a couple of days without trouble, then it would not start for love or money.I did some trouble shooting until I was fed up and then I called a tow unit to pick it up and haul it in. At the end of the day the tow bill was $400 to haul it in. It took awhile to figure out but it was a minor grounding problem that was inaccessible without hydraulics. It was under the cab. The unit has approximately 130 hours on it and now its been in the shop for over 4 weeks. The lifting arms had to be changed out because the welds on the step pad showed signs of cracking along the lifting arms. The 2 solutions presented to me were they could re-weld the cracks and send me on my way or if I insisted, they would change out the arms. This would take time to get approval and have them shipped up. With 130hrs on the machine it wasn't a hard choice to make. Even with the arms changed out it still leaves me wondering why there would be stress on this part of the loader to cause the cracks. The unit hasn't been abused or worked hard. It's barely broken in. Needless to say when this machine is houred out I will really think hard about buying another. I will say that all of the work that has been done on this machine has been covered by Terex and their warranties but it still doesn't take away from the fact that if its broke down and in the shop, its not making any money. It's time consuming to get parts shipped up and get the unit back out the door. If it breaks down and I have to haul it in it's costing money out of my pocket plus what I lose by giving up work. I would expect trouble from a used machine but brand new?
