Where do you draw the line between a garden tractor and a CUT?

Beg to differ on the horsepower available on the Nova, I had a '73 with the 350 4V and although that engine was downrated that year to reflect NET horsepower, it was never even close to having 400 from the factory in earlier years unless you want to include specialty models offered by dealers, like the Yenko.

The '70 Nova with a 396(which was really a 402) was factory rated at 375HP, which is indeed very close to 400HP. And yes, I am referring to the Yenko Nova 427/4254HP. There was one locally owned here in the 1970s. Insanely fast car. I've owned a 63 Chevy II, a 70 Nova, a 71 Nova, a 72 Nova and a 69-70-71 four door Nova (can't remember the exact year or parts combination on it). My condolences on you owning a 73. :laughing:

So, I'm a " poke-a-stick-in-the-eye" person because I wrote;

"Why does it matter? Buy what you need to do the jobs you have."

You wrote the same exact thing, maybe with better words, so why do you feel the need to denigrate me?

I wasn't referring to you. ;)

Somebody should use that for their name: 'Poke a Stick in the Eye Guy'

Yeah thanks....that '73 was the worst car I ever owned...it began rusting out at 3 years old, the top of the metal DASH began rusting out at 5-6 years old...how many people have seen a car rust out there? Never saw a 396 engined Nova except in the car magazines...

The 73 couldn't possibly be worse than the 75 that I owned. I had to use thumb tacks to keep the over head lining off my head.:mad:

But just to add to the debate..........

My GC2400 is listed by the manufacturer, the bank, and the insurance company as a 'Farm Tractor'.

There were quit a few 396 Novas around here and countless 350s.

A couple of mine did that. too! :laughing:

My 70 lasted until about '85 before it succumbed to rust. My mom and I walked up to it and pulled the back bumper off with our hands... no tools! :laughing: We then cut it up with a torch and put it out with the trash. :)

But I kept the engine and the hood. Still have them to this day waiting for something. :laughing:

My dad let me have it around '78 with about 135K on it. That one had a 230 L6. I had it bored out, balanced. CCd and had the head shaved down by a local company called Shaker Racing. I found some massive camshaft and a 4 barrel manifold from a company called Clifford In-Line Performance. I put a Holley economaster 4 barrel and headers on it. It would turn some crazy high RPMs because it had such a short stroke. With the factory 3sp column shifter it would do 114. After I blew up the reverse gear doing backwards burnouts, I put in a 4 speed out of a Monza. That had a very different gear ratio and cut the top speed down to 85. But man, did it get there really really quick! :D Chirped the tires between all 4 gears. That was my favorite car with the most fun memories. It was mine for 6 years. My dad had to borrow it once when his car needed work. He hadn't driven it since I did all the work to it. He drove out of the driveway slowly and disappeared down the hill quietly. Then I heard him get on it down the road and several stop signs after that. He came back later in the day with a big smile on his face! :D
