There is a small rubber boot on the power steering. I have managed to damage these on both sides in one week. I assume I am not the first one, I hope I am describing it correctly. They are not too bad. I am wondering how big of deal this is? seems off to had something that weak exposed.

TIA.

It's 2011 L4400DT

The boots are pretty tough. Did they rip or just move? The boots are held on by clips at each end. If a clip comes loose and the boot creep? I had that happen in the winter while making a lot of tight turns in 4WD. If that is the problem you can pull the boot back and reset the clip with pliers.

One just came unseated, one ripped a little bit. I am under warranty, I could trailer it up and get them replaced.

Wow, a lot of effort. How important are these dust covers? Is there a more heavy duty replacement? SHould I make them do it under warranty?

There are various threads on here about fabricating boot guards. As to importance, I know of people who have run torn/missing boots for years. I have to replace one and some day will, but my tractor is still in use.

It is not like a cv boot.

I am sure others will disagree.

That's kind of what I was thinking, the whole joint doesnt seem to be a big deal even if it was in bad shape. Mine are not as bad as those photos. I am going to Kubota today to drool over some forks and grapple buckets, so I will ask someone there how it applies to the warranty. Maybe they just give me the part and send me on my way and I can repacle them when need be? THat would be ideal I think.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I doubt warranty will cover it, but the dealer may give you one. I bought a couple because they aren't expensive and since I mow a lot of brush, I will tear another one off.
