Does anybody know what the difference in the Branson 20R and 20i series tractors are? I looked at the website specs and only see little differences. There's bound to be something significant that I haven't seen for them to be making both lines or is it like the MF 1500 and 1600 series. Looks like the 1500 is slowly being phased out.

My recollection is that the i series were introduced when Kukje went to an i_dependent clutch on the PTO.
Before that it was a two stage clutch; not really it was two separate clutches all along, but they were operated from the same pedal in..... guess what ? Yeah, two stages.
(-:

I don't have an idea on when or why they added an R, but I think it was later.
(gea_R ? is there a 20H for Hydro model ?)

I think the 20R series is a new re-design. It has some updated features like a one piece hood, fender mounted loader control, ect. I guess that the 20R series will replace the i series. It may take a while for Branson to sell all of the 20i series they still have, so I would expect some good deals on the way. This is purely speculation though, I have no real info to base this on.

The main differences are cosmetic. The 20R's are replacing the 10i, 20i, and 30i series. The 20r's range in hp from 31 to 50 on the same frame. Also the
20r's have the new tier 4 motor that is 2012 emmision compliant. There should be some good discounts on the I series this summer I hope. There are not hydrostatic models at this time but I am sure that will change soon. Also Branson is supposed to be releasing an 80hp cab model latter this year.

I dropped in on Valenti Tractor and Equipment in Troy, NH on Saturday.
He is "back in again" as a Branson dealer, after a few years of (almost) retirement.

We had a long chat, during which he confirmed that the R series is little more than a "cosmetic model year upgrade", i.e. same tractor with a little more power and pollution compliance (Tier n).

With turbos they have upped the power, top o' the line is 55 HP.
It seems kinda odd that they don't lower the compression on the turbo models, I'm a bit suspicious of that, but admit to not being current on small diesel engine design.
I would be watching exhaust temperature on one of these.

For anyone in the area Valenti is right there on Rte 12, just a little bit north of the black and yellow dealership (-:

Another thing you'll notice is 4020R and the switch back to the 1700cc 3 cylinder turbocharged 40hp engine instead of the 2000cc 4 cylinder 42hp normally aspirated engine in the 4220i. Just something I found interesting.
