I got hit in the eye with the end of a bungee cord, ER doctor says it is going to be ok, but still not something I would like to experience again.

I loaded trash cans on the trailer and as always secured lids with a bungee cords. My wife was helping me and said that one of the cords is too long. I say: you need to double it back and reached over to show her. She was being helpful and grapped the other end and it slipped out of her fingers and BANG! The plastic hook hit me straight in the right eye.

I am pretty sure I blinked, there is a bruise on the eye lid, it hurt like you know what, for a while I could see everything blurry, but in 10 minutes or so I could see only light, it was like looking through milk glass. We took the trash to land fill and went to ER afterward. We spent there 4 hours or so, during which the vision was slowly coming back. Doctor looked at it via microscope and said I was lucky, there is no damage, it just needs time and rest to get better. So now I have a patch over right eye, arr!

Comical relief - the nurse had to test my vision. She showed me the Snellen chart from 20 feet and asked me if I can see the E on top. LOL! I told her with my right eye, I don't see the chart or even the wall:D

It's a real problem and one that occurs regularly.

The new cords are covered with legal disclaimers...

Glad you will recover... and thanks for the alert!

You should title this "Wife" instead of "Bungee cord" :D

Now don't tell the safety inspectors or we have mandatory safety stickers all over the women next ;)

The landfill closes at 3 - it would never work the other way.

By the way - isn't it selbstverstandlich that wife is hazardous to your health?:D:D

My wife is an Ophthalmic photographer (aka eyeball picture taker) and has warned me for years about bungee cords. They get several patients every year
that show up after getting hit in the eye by a bungee.

Bungees are very dangerous!

After getting hit in the arm (h3ll of a bruise!! More like a welt), I started wearing goggles when strapping down with a bungee. I figured if it raised that much of a bruise on my arm, it would have put my eye out.
So, taking no chances here!!
The other thing, I no longer use those bungees with metal hooks or those that use the hook wire wrapped around the elastic cord. Now, I only buy plastic hooks and the bungees that are rubber (hooks are molded in or have a hole to locate the hook.

BTW, be glad the hook was plastic.

My BIL is eye doctor over in Czech, I heard many stories from him. And there is amazing number of cases of people shot in the eye with champagne cork - I would never expect that.
